Former Verizon, Qualcomm execs back Ingenu M2M network

2015-09-09 16:33:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) On-Ramp Wireless announced a corporate relaunch under the new name Ingenu and the roll-out of a public M2M network in the US. Ingenu is using On-Ramp's Random Phase Multiple Access (RPMA) technology already deployed in private networks to create a public network for machine-to-machine (M2M) and Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity, which it calls the 'Machine Network'. The build out of the Machine Network is already underway, with more than 50,000 square miles covered in the US. The company targets complete metropolitan areas, including Phoenix and Dallas, by January 2016, and the network build-out will continue across the country through the end of 2017. Ingenu is run by former Verizon and Qualcomm executives, including the former Verizon CTO Richard Lynch as chairman and former Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg and Qualcomm CTO Andrew Viterbi as board members and advisers. The company said  it has received "significant capital investment" to fund the network roll-out. Its management includes John Horn as CEO, Tom Gregor as president and general manager, Landon Garner as chief marketing officer and James Seines as vice president of finance. Under the tagline 'simply genius', Ingenu says its RPMA technology offers an alternative to public mobile networks, as the 2G networks currently used for many M2M applications are likely to be phased out in the coming years. It also offers "superior coverage and capacity at a greater value than alternative solutions", according to the company.
