Space Applications Services performs space system and software engineering for the European Space Agency ESA, National Space Agencies and the space industry. We are involved in international unmanned and manned spacecraft programmes. We require staff, wishing to join our team to work in a dynamic international environment for the following position Payload System Engineer ENGSERVELIPSXPL001 Tasks and Responsibilities ESAs Payloads and Platforms Division HSOUP, within the ISS Utilisation and Astronaut Support Department, and the ISS Resources and Utilisation Infrastructure Division HSOIF, within the ISS Exploitation and Exploration Department, have the responsibility for the full development activities for all ISS research payloads, as well as the evolution of existing ISS payloads and supports the subsequent operational phase of those ISS payloads. The current position is to join the system engineering team to support the Atomic Clock Ensemble in Space ACES and AtmosphereSpace Interaction Monitor ASIM payloads, two research payloads under development for the external platform of the Columbus lab. Our company is responsible for supporting ESA in System Engineering for these payloads. The work will be performed in our offices in Noordwijk, The Netherlands, close to ESTEC. The position will include the following tasks and responsibilities Providing system engineering support to ESAs technical officers for the development activities and verification of the subject payloads. Supporting the technical officer in defining and implementing the functional requirements. Elaborating and proposing corrective actions and solutions for identified technical problems in payload development projects. Definition and maintenance of top level system requirements documents. Review and clarify launch vehicle interface requirements. Monitoring and coordinating AIT activities and interface verification at industry. Supporting the organisation and conduct of reviews in the project life cycle. Supporting feasibility studies and future payload assessments. Qualifications and Experience Applicants should have a University degree in an engineering discipline or in physics. Candidates are required to have following skills Knowledge of the ISS environment for scientific payloads. Knowledge of ISS boundary conditions and product assurance and safety procedures. Preferably 5 or more years experience in the science payload space flight domain and at the least one of the following field electrical electronic thermal software engineering. Knowledge of the requirements definition and verification process for scientific payloads. Management of external hardware software interfaces for payloads definition, control, verification. Experience in managing payload development projects and in defining requirements linked to the individual phases of the project. Experience in organisation of technical reviews for development projects. Experience in interfacing with industry, academia and national and international organisations, would be an advantage. System Anomaly Resolution, Management and Coordination function shall entail the following 30 o Assess and provide data analysis reports o Coordinate root cause and corrective action determination as required o Support the vendor preparation and presentation of failure analysis reports Future Procurement function shall entail the following 10 o Assist in development of future systems via creation and maintenance of link budgets. o Support the development of concept of operations from a Payload perspective o Assist in development of payload requirements documentation to support system level architecture o Assist in development of interface control documentation with adjacent elements within the architecture including ground segment elements o Support the vendor preparation and presentation of failure analysis reports Requirements Minimum 7 years experience in Satellite Communications Strong technical and handson application experience in the Satellite Communications Payload, preferably Ka Band, area showing steady increase in overall responsibility Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English Patience and tenacity to work with others with English as a second language Demonstrated performance as a reliable team player SelfStarter with a high level of personal accountability Ability to travel internationally at up to 30 of the time, potentially more for limited periods Experience working in a team environment managing day to day activities supporting flight operations Experience leading and leveraging small teams of engineers in a procurement environment is preferable. Specific experience successfully working with and within large organizational infrastructures Proven ability to smoothly organize and apply structure to potentially chaotic and confusing situations such as may occur in an operations environment during system anomalies.
