DUTIES The postholder reports to the Head of the Atmospheric Section of the Mission Science Division. In discharging these responsibilities, specific tasks shall include supporting scientific evaluation of proposals and selection of future missions for implementation contributing to the preparation and elaboration of candidate Earth Explorer, Copernicus and operational meteorology missions, payload definition and associated requirements e.g. mission requirements document, catalogue of future mission data products acting as custodian for mission requirements related to Earth observation satellite missions and as Mission Scientist during the assessment and implementation phases of related missions supporting approved satellite mission projects throughout their development, calibration, validation and commissioning phases, to ensure that their payload and the endtoend system fulfil the relevant mission requirements establishing, maintaining and running international advisory groups related to these missions conducting and supervising inhouse and external scientific studies supporting geophysical algorithm development and related research participating in the preparation of calibrationvalidation, research Announcements of Opportunity and evaluation of corresponding proposals advising the Divisions Campaigns Section on scientific requirements for definition and implementation of aircraft and groundbased campaignsexperiments in association with geophysical algorithm development, product simulation or missionperformance assessment. In this capacity the postholder will provide support to, and advise on the detailed scientific goals of, the various international scientific and operational user communities concerned with Earth System science. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a PhD preferably in atmospheric chemistry, or physics, geophysics or another appropriate scientific field, plus at least ten years experience of atmospheric remotesensing techniques and research, notably in connection with atmospheric composition. Candidates should have specialist knowledge of the relevant types of instrumentation used on the Copernicus, future operational meteorology and Earth Explorer missions, and demonstrable experience from relevant scientific activities either internationally or in ESA Member States. Several years of experience demonstrating an independent working attitude would be an asset. Particular importance will be attached to personal scientific ability, peer credibility, flexibility and adaptability. The candidate will be expected to work as a member of a team. For behavioural competencies expected from ESA staff in general, please refer to the ESA Competency Framework. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. To support our customer in the scientific development of algorithms for calibration and test of the UVNS Ultraviolet, Visible, Near infrared, Short wave infrared Sounding Mission we are looking for a university graduated engineer in meteorology, atmospheric physics, remote sensing, or equivalent, with at least 3 years experience in the field of remote sensing. This position is based at our customer EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany. Submission deadline will be 28h of September 2016. ResponsibilitiesDuties Inhouse consultancy support is sought for the ongoing scientific activities in preparation for a future UVNS mission to be flown on the EUMETSAT Polar System Second Generation. The key person will provide support within the Atmospheric Composition Team in the Remote Sensing and Products RSP Division of EUMETSAT, located in Darmstadt, Germany. Heshe will be fully integrated in the Atmospheric Composition Team and will interface with inhouse experts of various disciplines system, instruments, operations, science, and in particular members of the PostEPS Science Team within the RSP Division.
