Responsibilities Performs 247 oncall operations on a rotating basis. Responds to anomalies, provides initial direction to controllers, initiates and leads anomaly resolution efforts. Plans and directs complex payload reconfigurations, including integrated activities involving multiple spacecraft andor functional areas, to support broadcast operations. Supports new spacecraft development efforts. Analyzes design review documentation to verify operational requirements are satisfied, participates in ground testing of new spacecraft, supports orbit raising activities, and manages inorbit test and evaluation activities. Conceptualizes, develops, and reviews new processes, methods, scripts, and other tools used by both the engineering and operations teams. Investigates and analyzes long and shortterm spacecraft performance trends. Manages and approves criteria used for monitoring all spacecraft subsystems. Plans, executes, and monitors spacecraft maneuvers. Performs maneuver reconstruction, orbit determination, and prepares shortterm operating strategies. Researches, develops, and presents advanced training materials to meet team and organization requirements. May supervise one or more junior level engineers to include responsibilities for personnel issues hiring, performance appraisals, terminations, etc. Basic Qualifications Bachelors degree B. S. in engineering or physics from a fouryear college or university, and at least five years relevant spacecraft operations experience. This position requires ITAR accesscandidate must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident. Preferred Qualifications Operations experience with Space Systems Loral FS1300 or Lockheed Martin A2100 spacecraft highly desired. Experience with ISIs EPOCH TTC software a plus. Ability to read, analyze and interpret business periodicals, technical procedures, or government policy. Able to write reports, correspondence, and operations procedures. Comfortable presenting information and responding to questions from managers, corporate executives, customers, and general public. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, calculus, differential equations, and fundamentals of planesolid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to use and apply concepts such as integration, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. LSE Space is looking for 2 experienced Spacecraft Operations Engineers mf TTC or Power Thermal in order to support the Venus Express Mission at ESOC in Darmstadt. The Venus Express mission is currently extended until end of 2014, with a potential further extension into 2015 being considered. All platform and backup subsystems are in good health. All instruments are operational except for PFS that could not be operated since the beginning of the mission due to a shutter malfunction and VIRTIS which is affected by the end of life of the coolers, thus limiting its performance in the infrared spectrum. The mission is very dynamic in spite of being in routine phase with multiple special operations like the quadratures, solar conjunctions and lately the aerodrag experiments. The team is challenged with demanding tasks in the next years ground segment obsolescence migrations, operations automation an possibly preparing and implementing the first European aerobraking operations to be decided in June 2013. The main tasks will be The Venus Express Mission Control Team requires Spacecraft Operations Engineers SOEs to provide operations support for Telemetry and Telecommanding Subsystem TTC or Power Thermal subsystems. The SOEs will work within the VEX Flight Control Team FCT under the direct management of the VEX Spacecraft Operations Manager. Be required to take prime responsibility of platform TTC or Power Thermal subsystem and back up of at least one spacecraftground subsystems AOCS, Data Handling, Payload instrument, PowerThermal, Mission Control System, Simulator or Mission Planning. Be required to coordinate TTC operations with relevant Ground Operations Engineers and Flight Dynamics, in particular for Radio Science and DeltaDOR activities or VEX Mission Planning System including the generation of long, medium and short term planning products on rotation shifts. Be required to work with the VEX Mission Planning System including the generation of long, medium and short term planning products on rotation shifts every 56 weeks approx. Be required to work and be on call as operations engineer supervising operations conduction one week every 56 weeks approx. Be required to write and maintain operational procedures in MOIS and reports. Be required to operate the VEX Mission Control System based on SCOS 2000 to monitor and control spacecraft operations. Be assertive, communicative and able to work in a team in a multinational environment. Be able to learn new skills and adapt to the VEX operations environment within 23 months. Be able to actively participate in the relevant technical meetings and teleconferences.
