Data Systems Manager Key Tasks and Responsibilities As Data Systems Manager you will manage Mission Data Systems MDS, which include specific software applications for the domains of Space Weather, Near Earth Objects and Space Surveillance and Tracking of the Space Safety programme. It also covers Mission Control System, Mission Planning System, Operational Simulators, Service Provision Data Centre and Advanced Software Applications. You will have the following responsibilities Support the deployment, validation and operations of SSA applications, developed in the context of industrial activities Setup, configuration and management of DEVOPS environment for SSA systems, including automation of application deployment solution OnSite software development for adhoc RD projects, innovation tasks, Lab projects Drive innovation through implementing DevOps technologies and championing DevOps culture. The tasks may include o Automating CICD processes o Analyze root causes of issues and provide corrective actions o Identify, evaluate and implement cutting edge big data pipelines and frameworks required to provide requested capabilities to integrate external data sources and APIs o Provide architectural support by building Proof of Concepts Prototypes Development and Maintenance of Mission Data Systems, including specification and management of Software Requirements, contractual and technical work for the start of a new MDS project and support the Management and perform ESOC internal activities related to MDS deployment, testing, configuration etc according to ESOC internal processes Support to Missions critical activities, organisation of Software Support SWS onsite environment preparation Support to missions during the whole lifetime Support to 3rd Party and Special Projects o Interact with ESA external 3rd party entities e.g. EUD, GSA, DLR, NASA o Support ESA from data systems perspective towards external entities, in particular to recommend agreement on technical and organisational interfaces o Coordinate the inhouse and industrial data systems team o Interact with companies of new member states in preparation process for new activities o Contribute to bring OPSGD and Data Systems perspective in collaborative projects with other ESA entities, in the context of special projects and future missions e.g. NAV, TEC, HRE o Coordinate the inhouse developments of MDS for small missions Support to study, innovation and standardisation, including preparing proposals and organising and coordinating joint projects with other agencies in the context of standardisation e.g. interoperability testing, prototyping. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience Previous experience in Space Systems including o Development and maintenance of Mission Data Systems o Service Provision Data Centre and Advanced Software Applications development o DEVOPS, Cloud Computing, Deployment Automation o MDS project and documentation Previous experience in coordinating and interacting with other service providers in operations and other fields Knowledge of the SSA systems, in particular in the area of Space Weather would be an advantage Demonstrated experience applying good DevOps principles Good knowledge of APIdriven, extensible, loosely coupled systems Good knowledge of automation, security, stability and scalability in private and public cloud environments Handson experience in using and operating Docker and container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes and Helm, as well as build systems such as GitlabCI, Jenkins, Automation technologies in particular Chef Previous experience with development and maintenance of big software projects Knowledge of project management, software engineering, SSA systems and ESOC operational environment Ability to work independently and to have a cooperative attitude with team members rather than competitive Ability to capture the bigger picture and the system context Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an advantage. The OPEN Preparation Environment OPEN is supporting the preparation of tailoring data for European Ground Systems Common Core EGSCC based systems. Being a software framework, OPEN is meant to be the foundation of larger software products which are provided to end users, such as AIT engineers or operators. The OPEN framework was born from an ESA initiative to streamline and harmonise EGSCC based preparation environments for spacecraft and ground stations operations teams to manage tailoring data required to operate the data systems.
