For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for a Software Engineer for Mission Control System Support for the Sentinel 3 mission. Sentinel3 is a Low Earth Orbiting mission to support services relating to the marine and global land environment, with capability to serve further atmospheric and cryosphericbased application areas. The objectives of the Sentinel3 mission encompass the commitment to consistent, longterm collection of remotely sensed marine and land data, of uniform quality, for operational ocean state analysis, forecasting and service provision, in the context of the Copernicus Services as set up by the European Commission. Tasks and Responsibilities The tasks of the key person will typically include Maintenance and Evolution Activities Reengineering activities analysis of the porting of some subsystems to stateoftheart technologies, tradeoff studies of various technologies, software design of the technical solutions, following the procurement of the changes with external contractors and verification testing of the changes. Evolutions and changes generation andor analysis of userdriven and maintenance driven software requirements, software design of the technical solutions, following the procurement of the changes with external contractors and verification testing of the changes. Preventive and corrective maintenance including the investigation and correction or following the corrections implemented by external contractors of anomalies in the software facilities and verification testing of the fixes. Maintenance test procedures generation and updates of maintenance test procedures at software facility level and at system level. Support and development of the verification infrastructure development andor procurement of scripts I tools to perform installation checks, nonregression, functional and performance testing. Analysis and implementation of mechanisms or tools allowing the automatic or semiautomatic verification testing of the application software. Coordination of the production of new software releases or patches, delivery acceptance and installation onsite. This activity includes the technical coordination of the production by an external contractor of new releases or patches of the application software, liaison with the EUMETSAT operational users, participation to technical reviews, participation to infactory at contractor premises acceptance testing campaigns and coordination of the installation of the releases or patches onsite at EUMETSAT. Execution and coordination of software verification and nonregression testing campaigns. This activity includes preparation of test data, running the test procedures on the target system, generation of test reports, analysis of results and troubleshooting of problems. User Support Software support software support to the endusers of the application software. Ensure operations continuity by provision of oncall services and software support to operations. Training prepare and provide training covering usage and maintenance aspects of the application software. Requirements Essentials In addition to having a University degree in a relevant engineering discipline the key person shall have skills and experience in software maintenance, evolution and testing with the following mandatory areas Domain Skills Extensive experience minimum 5 years in software maintenance and evolution of Satellite Mission Control Systems based on MICONYS software suite from ESAESOC. In particular experience in all the following MICONYS components is considered mandatory SCOS2000, SLE API, F ARC, PARC and NIS Knowledge and understanding with actual working experience of space related standards ECSS and CCSDS concerning spacetoground interfaces and applicable to Satellite Mission Control Systems such as ECSS Packet Utilisation Standard PUS, CCSDS Space Packet Protocol SPP and CCSDS Space Link Extension Protocol SLE. Under this work package, service shall be provided to support ESA in system administration activities for those computer systems used for science operations and research activities. QUALIFICATIONSEXPERIENCE Some years of experience in system engineering for the development or major upgrades including support to operations and maintenance of EO related ground segments or main components of them based on large scale software systems is required Knowledge and experience is required in ECSS, ISO, Software development related Ground System engineering processes and standards Experience of ground segments which are designed and developed taking advantage by the reuse of existing generic infrastructure and functional elements System and Interfaces Engineering AIT experience for the development of major upgradesnew ground systems in a 247 operational environment A relevant engineering degree ESSENTIAL SKILLS Good knowledge of at least 2 of the following and an overview of the others o Networking Communications o Near RealTime Data Processing o Monitoring and control of satellites o Monitoring and control of ground systems Experience in Ground Segment I, VV Definition, management and traceability of requirements structure with the support of dedicated tools e.g. DOORS Very good command of the English language Ability to work in international teams Good communication and mediation skills, proactive and confident personality BENEFITS Competitive salary plus a comprehensive benefits package including 30 days holiday, generous training possibilities and Telespazio VEGA Deutschland pension scheme is offered to the successful candidate.
