Please note that previous experience within Space or MOD projects is only desirable rather than essential. The initial role is expected to be on the Galileo satellite navigation project for the European Space Agency. For this, CGI is developing the ground station systems that oversee Galileo security and that control interaction with the 30 satellites, control the distribution of navigation data to the satellites and ground equipment, and that control access to the public regulated service by authorised bodies throughout the EU. CGI is developing bespoke software, procuring hardware specialist cryptographic equipment and COTS equipment and assembling the systems in racks at our Leatherhead site in the UK. The racks are then deployed to several sites within the EU for operational use. The system design is classified and role requires the handling of classified material. The mission is to measure seasurface topography, sea and landsurface temperature and ocean and landsurface colour with highend accuracy and reliability in support of ocean forecasting systems, and for environmental and climate monitoring. The first of two Sentinel3 spacecraft is planned to be launched in mid2015. The Challenge We are looking for an experienced Linux System Administration Engineer who will be working at our customers site, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany. As a member of the Computer and Storage Management team, you will provide support for Sentinel3 Ground Segment Commissioning and Routine Operations. The duties range from the support to the operation of the Linuxbased ground segment facilities, to the analysis, design, development, testing and maintenance of distributed hardware and system software platforms. This includes the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures, the support to the procurement of hardware and software, and the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. This may comprise writing and reviewing requirement and design specifications, change proposals, preparing documents supporting procurements, reviewing data packages belonging to technical inspections and reviews, writing and reviewing IT architecture and design, writing design evaluation reports, writingreviewing reports, test reports and overall status reports perform the activities in applying the relevant change control and maintenance procedures In the performance of these tasks, you will apply the EUMETSA T configuration and change control procedures as well as the relevant system engineering standards, quality management procedures and maintenance procedures. The position includes the need for oncall standby support. This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date in May 2015.
