TASKS The MTG Ground Segment System Engineer is sought to support ground segmentrelated activities for the phase CD of the MTG programme. The phase CD has started since the completion of the ground segment Preliminary Design Review May 2012 and is completing at the Qualification Review presently planned mid2018. The duties range from specification, analysis, design, build, deployment and subsequent verification. The activities for this consultancy relate to the ground segment, consisting of the data acquisition systems, monitoring and control systems, data processing and archiving facilities product dissemination facilities and the encompassing network elements. The MTG Ground Segment System Engineer will perform typical system engineering activities such as Requirements engineering, which consists in requirement analysis and validation, requirement allocation, and requirement maintenance System analysis, which is performed for the purpose of resolving requirements conflicts, decomposing and allocating requirements, assessing system effectiveness Performance of trade studies for assessing effectiveness, risk, cost and planning Design, build and configuration which results in a physical architecture, described by its complete functional, physical and software characteristics Integration and verification, which final objective is to demonstrate that the deliverables conform to the specified requirements. General support to ground segment detailed definition, production and qualification phases Management of the requirements baseline, including for changes, deviations and waivers and evaluation of impact on element baselines Ensuring availability of long lead items, particularly those needed for verification such as ensuring availability of procuring test data and tools Completion of the detailed design of the ground segment system, including analyses architectural tradeoffs, system technical budgets, RAMS, FMECA, risk analyses to ensure completeness and coherence of the design for all aspects related to system engineering. In the performance of these tasks, the MTG Ground Segment System Engineer shall comply with the applicable rules of the clients Directory of Instructions DI and the clients Management System EMS, the applicable organisational and divisional management standards, and also with the relevant working practices and procedures as well as the organisational and divisional documentation management procedures. The set of applicable rules and working practice to be applied during the execution of the work will be made available at start of the duties. The tasks to be assigned to the MTG Ground Segment System Engineer will be agreed through dedicated workpackages with clear identification of activities and outputs expected. PROFILE Mandatory skills The MTG Ground Segment System Engineer shall have the following experience and background University degree or equivalent in the domain of engineering or science At least 5 years of experience in the field of engineering of spacerelated ground systems, including good experience in any two of Networking Communications, Ground Stations, Near RealTime Data Processing Monitoring and control of satellites, Monitoring and control of ground systems and an overview of the other three items Experience in systemlevel analyses from an endtoend perspective, understanding relevant details while keeping the focus on the overall system aspects and presenting the results in a comprehensible way Experience in preparation of system requirements and design documentation Experience in the integration and verification of such systems. Fluent in English Desirable skills The following experience would represent additional assets Experience in data archive retrieval and data dissemination systems Experience in management and traceability of complex requirements structure Experience with DOORS administration Experience in the use of modelling and design tools in support of architectural design activities e.g. Enterprise Architect Experience in software engineering Experience in configuration Control processes and tools Knowledge of ECSS standards. The MTG Ground Segment System Engineer shall be able to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision, have a systematic approach to work, be able to plan hisher work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks. Heshe shall have the capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation. Good communication skills verbal and written are important. Heshe shall be willing to work in a team of engineers and in cooperation with industry and partner agencies. The main key interfaces and contacts will be engineers, suppliers and subcontractors. AVAILABILITY AND WORKING HOURS The activity is assumed, as a baseline, to require fulltime participation of one consultant for the duration of the contract. The work will be released in individual work packages. Travel within Europe, or even worldwide might be required for some tasks and will also be identified in the corresponding work package. The MTG Ground Segment System Engineer shall be in a position to attend, on a short notice, reviews and progress meetings held outside clients premises. REPORTING Formal reporting is required at monthly intervals or in the event of a major task completion. The monthly reports and any other reports or technical documentation generated shall be submitted in writing directly to the technical representative.
