Ground Segment Network and System Engineer to provide Consultancy Support to EPSSG Ground Segment

The mission You will be mainly providing engineering support, to the EPSSG Ground Segment Technical Manager in the frame of the EPSSG Preparatory Programme Phase B. As a member of the Ground Segment GS team, you shall provide support to the EPSSG Ground Segment requirements analysis, architecture design and requirement implementation of the Ground Segment networks system as part of the EPSSG System. The duties range from the analysis, design, installation, and testing of the communications networks system. This may include support to the procurement of hardware and software, and the coordination with external service providers. The tasks will nominally cover the entire development lifecycle. In particular during the initial phase the tasks will include Support to Ground Segment requirements engineering analysis, validation, allocation and maintenance Assistance to the definition of the ground segment interfaces Definition of EPSSG GS Network requirements Support to Ground Segment design architecture definition, including analyses, tradeoffs and compilation of technical budgets Establishing the overall EPSSG GS Network Design Identification of areas of risk and contributing to any related trade off studies or prototyping activities Support to Ground segment reviews Requirements Review and Preliminary Design Review Participation in reviews and meetings at system, ground segment and facility level. In the performance of these tasks, you shall apply the relevant system engineering standards, quality management procedures and maintenance procedures. You are expected to write and review requirement specifications and change proposals, prepare procurements, participate in technical inspections and reviews, document the communication and network architecture system design and write evaluation reports, review reports, test reports and overall status reports. Profile You shall have a university degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline relevant to the job profile together with the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision. You shall have, as a prerequisite, a demonstrated experience in a similar function for at least three years working with high availability systems. Knowledge and experience with the following is considered mandatory Experience in preparation of system requirements and design documentation Knowledge of Cisco network and security equipment and architectures Knowledge of high availability network architectures and protocols e.g. HSRP, VSS Familiarity with network management, QoS and traffic shaping principles Familiarity with satellite communications DVB, VSAT, Point to Point links. Knowledge and experience with the following is considered an advantage Experience in the definition of space related ground segments Experience in the integration and verification of such systems Experience in systemlevel analyses from an endtoend perspective Knowledge of ECSS standards. Knowledge and experience with the following is considered beneficial Experience in use of requirements management and traceability tools e.g. DOORS Experience in the use of modelling and design tools in support of architectural design activities e.g. CORE Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, including MSVisio. The variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills. You shall be in possession of sound management and interpersonal skills to conduct the responsibilities described above autonomously and with a minimum level of supervision, exhibiting good oral and written communications skills, analytical capabilities, and motivation. Satellite Data System Engineer

This position, based near Frankfurt in Germany, is for a consultant with at least 3 years experience of design, development and integration of operational ground systems and experience of Earth observation processing systems. Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. This role will be responsible for system engineering tasks, including definition and integration of the data handling and product processing systems. The key experience and attributes sought are At least 3 years experience with design, development and integration of operational ground systems providing 24x7 services Experience of Earth observation processing systems Experience of system verification and validation Familiarity with the Linux operating system, shell programming languages e.g. bash and high level programming languages e.g. Java or Python The ability to perform software modifications and developments for the purpose of integrating and adapting existing software packages into the established system Candidates should possess a university degree or equivalent. Responsibilities Duties The purpose of the EUMETSAT Advanced Retransmission Service EARS is to provide polar satellite data from the EUMETSAT Metop and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration NOAA satellites with a timeliness suited to the needs of European operational short range regional numerical weather prediction models. The Engineer shall be responsible for system engineering tasks. In this area of work, the tasks will typically include Support to the preparation of studies and proposals for new EUMETSAT Advanced Retransmission Service EARS services Support to the user consultation process during preparations for and definition of new services Technical liaison with the international partners providing the software packages for product processing of the satellite instrument data, including identification of test data and test environment Definition and integration of the data handling and product processing systems for the new EARS services Coordination and definition of technical interfaces with the external partners and service providers supporting EARS Support to the definition of EARS system evolution activities.
