For our project near Madrid in Spain we are looking for a System and Software Engineer for XMMNewton Science Operations fm at ESAC. Tasks The Instrument Operations Team IOT within the XMMNewton Science Operations Centre SOC at ESAC provides the System and Software Engineering support of the XMMNewton Science Operations Control System XSCS. The IOT also performs the Data Processing of the XMMNewton science data ODFs as well as the support activities in the Science Operations area in close collaboration with the Mission Operations Control Centre MOC located at ESOC and the Science Support Team SST at ESAC. The main activities of this service position should include but are not limited to Software maintenance of the XSCS XMMNewton SOC Control System Subsystems. XSCS subsystems comprise SCOS 2000 based downlink subsystems PMS, ODS and QLA Non SCOS 2000 based uplink subsystems HRPSXRPSPHS SGS Non SCOS 2000 based service subsystems AMS, XFTS and DTS Migration of the XSCS subsystems to Solaris Virtual Machines Migration of the Solaris8 based subsystems to Solaris10 based Virtual Machines Data Processing of the XMMNewton Data, including Raw TM handling and maintenance, including TCX generation and Long Term Archive Trend Analysis ODF generation and supervision Qcheck support and maintenance with evaluation of results Supervision of ODF Reprocessing In general, support and coordination of overall Science Products Generation Operations Support, including Support to the Instrument Operations Manager Support of activities related to routine payload operations preparation, execution and evaluation Support to the On Board Instrument Software activities Quality Assurance, including Configuration Control support activities and Documentation Management CCB issues handling Maintenance tasks will include both first and second line maintenance. The incumbent holder will keep a strong interaction with the XSCS users on what concerns the daily operations of the XSCS systems. Maintenance activities include the setup and run support to the several chains where XSCS is installed Operational, Reprocessing, Validation, Development and AO Chains. Essential Requirements The service to be provided requires the following qualification, knowledge and experience A University degree or equivalent in computer science or related fields Proven experience on data processing systems for space astronomy missions Experience with Data Base management tools mostly ORACLE and protocols for information access from SOC systems Good knowledge of UNIX mostly Solaris and Virtual Operating systems Experience with the management of TM and subproducts trend analysis, long term archive Good command of modern programming languages CC, Perl, Tcl, Fortran The candidate should be open minded and be able to understand the different subsystems as a whole integrated systems. The selected contractor must be willing to operate in an international team environment. Heshe should be systemminded, flexible and able to work as a member of a small interdisciplinary team. Satellite System Engineer ENGSERVSYS20130103 Tasks and Responsibilities The position of Satellite System Engineer in the Systems and Cost Engineering Division will have responsibility for supporting the Tertiary Education Unit of the ESA Education and Knowledge Management Office. The postholder will report to the Head of the Tertiary Education Unit, and will support him for the coordination of educational satellite projects throughout all phases of their lifecycle. The current education satellite projects include the European Student Earth Orbiter ESEO and CubeSats. The work will be performed at the European Space Research and Technology Centre ESTEC in Noordwijk, The Netherlands and will include the following tasks and responsibilities Coordinate the involved project teams which include space engineering professionals, university staff, and university students. Provide system engineering support to the project teams. Monitor the technical baseline of the relevant projects and review the project documentation to ensure compliance with requirements, applicable standards and good space engineering practice. Support and review the satellite AIV Assembly, Integration and Verification campaigns to be performed at the ESTEC test facilities or at facilities located elsewhere, the launch interfacing and campaigns to be supported also at the launch site, if needed. Support preparation and conduct of project meetings, project reviews, test campaigns, workshops andor conferences. Liaise with the Young Graduate Trainees involved in the satellite projects of the Education Office and support the Head of the Tertiary Education Unit for their coordination. Liaise with the colleagues of the Education Office in charge of Outreach coordination to the scope of supporting the outreach initiatives on the ESA education satellites.
