For our activities in ESTEC, we are currently looking for a Software Systems Application Engineer. Tasks and Responsibilities As successful candidate you will provide on demand support to the Software System Division for a number of specific and dedicated software applications, many of them deployed in the Software Systems Avionic Lab and used in Projects activities, RD studies and Inhouse facilities ATB, EGSE Reference Facility, System Database Reference Facility and developments. It involves user support in installation, testing and corrective, adaptive, preventive and perfective maintenance. Specifically the maintenance of software tools that are or will be made available to other ESA or Industry stakeholders, for example through the new ESA Web portal ESSR ESA Space Software Repository. To perform these tasks, it requires an uptodate and actively maintained knowledge of the stateofart and market availability for a number of software tools. These tasks are currently performed ad hoc by individual ESA staff of the division. The tasks include the interface and proxy to but not replaces the Service Admin. The nonexhaustive list of applications includes EGSE Reference Facility application maintenance Avionic Test Bed Facility application maintenance DOORS tool used in a number of projects e.g. BepiColombo, S1, SolarOrbiter, MPCV, JUICE, Copernicus CSDE Collaborative Software Development tools used by Projects e.g. EarthCare and developments such as European Ground System Common Core EGSCC SCOS 2000 Satellite Control and Operation System tool used by many ESA projects SSET Spacesystem Simulator for EGSE Testing application used in the EGSE Reference Facility Eagle Eye reference mission application used in many RD activities TASTE ASSERT Set of Tools for Engineering application for automating safety critical software development OSRA frontend to TASTE Software Verification Tools static and dynamic code analysers for onboard as well as ground applications. Requirements You should bring a Master degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience as well as experience in the following fields Knowledge of modern software engineering practices and software engineering standards Familiar with modern software engineering methods and have hands on experience of software development i.e.Eclipse and verification tools Experience with modern configuration control methods and tools Software practical experience, Object Oriented design methods, databases, compilers, UML, XML, Linux, Windows as well as programming and scripting languages such as C, C, TclTk, Java Relevant experience within realtime software systems and software engineering Experience within ESA space programmes and applications using space qualified microprocessors ERC32 and LEON and communication protocols MIL1553, CAN, SpaceWire is an advantage A proactive and cando attitude. Their Defence Intelligence Solutions DIS business is an industry leader in Geospatial Intelligence GEOINT and a trusted partner for MOD. Over the past 30 years, our customer has developed a deep understanding of Defence Intelligence missions through its involvement in multiple UK and international programmes, and has the domain knowledge and mission understanding crucial to the success of their customers. In recent years, our customer has partnered with MOD to successfully overcome challenges and complexities. The programme is a very dynamic, information technologyfocused effort with multiple subcontractors supporting an operationally oriented customer with numerous mission critical demands. The systems include a collection of infrastructure components of servers, storage, workstations, networking and printers, and also a number of image analysis, processing, storage and retrieval software solutions. The systems are deployed across a number of sites in the UK with a mobile field deployed component for use in the UK and abroad. Tasks and Responsibilities The successful candidate will find themselves working on programmes at various stages of the systems engineering lifecycle, gaining experience and an understanding of how Engineering and how our customer operate. You will progressively develop technical, interpersonal, team working and other valuable skills that are fundamental to the business. We are seeking a software and systems integration engineer to support the phases of a design, build, integration, configuration and test for replacement of or modifications to elements of these systems. The role involves engineering in the full systems engineering lifecycle from requirements analysis through to design, build, test and acceptance into live service. The role will include validating and verifying the design artefacts from internal teams or subcontractors and supporting the integration and testing of the third party subsystem deliverables. There is also system transitioning and data migration to be planned, designed and tested.
