NEMA welcomed passage by U.S. Senate of 2 bills containing trade-related benefits for electrical equipment and medical imaging manufacturers. Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act of 2015 authorizes and reforms trade facilitation functions of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, while Trade Preferences Extension Act of 2015 renews Generalized System of Preferences program, which allows for duty-free importation of industrial inputs from less developed countries.

NEMA testifies on critical minerals legislation in U.S. Senate.

Kevin J. Cosgriff, president and CEO of NEMA, testified at hearing of U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources in support of legislation to update federal policy related to mineral resources critical to many NEMA member companies. Cosgriff voiced strong support for American Mineral Security Act, and highlighted important role even small amounts of minerals can play in enabling energy efficiency of products such as lighting equipment, PM electric motors, and MRI units.

NEMA publishes standard for utility end device data tables.

NEMA has published ANSI C12.19-2012 American National Standard For Utility Industry End Device Data Tables. In its third release, standard establishes new baseline document that includes all corrections that were applied in Annex N, "Listing of editorial errors and errors of omission in ANSI C12.19-2008," of IEEE Std 1377™-2012. Standard defines table structure for utility application data to be passed between an end device and any other device.
