Cotton futures have recovered in the last week in New York, over renewed optimism about US-China trade talks. Beijing has already announced that leading spinners will be exempted from retaliatory tariffs on US cotton. China's cotton imports have surged in the first half, mostly benefiting Brazil, as confirmed by our June data per origin. Our weekly cotton report covers the futures market in New York and China, and the physical indicator "A Index". Cotton fiber prices have begun bottoming out in India, where spinners have continued to lower their offers for cotton yarns, by contrast. Gross margins should continue dropping, as a result, with anemic exports further depressing production and sales. Our weekly review of Indian yarn prices covers the domestic and export markets, including carded and combed cotton, poly-cotton, poly-viscose, 100% polyester, and 100% viscose. Spun yarn prices have further fallen in the past seven days in China, over a weakness in demand. Seasonal trends should now favor spinners, however, as inventories also need to be replenished, and yarn import prices are not very competitive. Our weekly report covers the China yarn domestic and import market indicators, as well as local market prices in Qianqing (Zhejiang).
