Cotton prices have further declined in New York, although with very different results depending on contracts. Demand is depressed from spinners on the international and domestic markets, with participants waiting for the results of the G8-summit later this week, which should tell if China will resume buying cotton on the international market. Spun yarn prices have stopped falling in China after cotton and polyester prices have begun bottoming out a few days ago. Production levels have sharply fallen amid rising inventories, however, with nearly all spinning mills currently losing money. Our weekly report covers the China yarn domestic and import market indicators, as well as local market prices in Qianqing (Zhejiang). Prices of a large number of counts are released for spun cotton, polyester, viscose, and blends. Import prices are also available for cotton yarns. Domestic and import yarn prices are compared.
