DUTIES The postholder will initially be assigned as integrated support to the function of Flight Products Engineer in the Flight Heritage Products and Hosted Payloads Implementation Section, Technology and Products Division, Telecommunications Technologies, Products and Systems Department of the Directorate of Telecommunications and Integrated Applications and will report to the Head of the Flight Heritage Products and Hosted Payloads Implementation Section. Specific duties will include providing expert mechanical engineering support and assessment of technical performance to ARTES 34 and 5.2 Programmes for spacecraft and payload products and hosted payloads, including o supporting project design reviews and NRBs o identifying critical development problems and assisting in their resolution o executing analyses as required to support the mechanical design of products under development o participating in mechanical testing activities in support of these projects and correlating analysis and test results. managing and supporting activities devoted to the development of satellite platform and payload technology and products under the responsibility of the Flight Heritage Products and Hosted Payloads Implementation Section including o initiating, in collaboration with the ESA Procurement Department and other relevant ESA departments, activities related to payload and platform technology and product developments for telecommunication satellites o negotiating, monitoring and controlling contracts and activities related to payload technology and product development o preparing inputs for status reports. identifying and defining the payload and platform technology needs of future satellite telecommunication services supporting the preparation of the ARTES 5.1 annual work plan providing the technical support required in the field of responsibility, coordinating the specialised engineering support provided by the Directorate of Technical and Quality Management in the appropriate areas of competence and liaising with specialists from other ESA departments. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering or related discipline. They should have several years of experience with the design and qualification of satellite equipment, including for telecommunication satellites, and substantial experience in one or more of the following domains telecommunication payload and platform engineering, including design, systemlevel analysis, manufacturing andor testing payload and platform equipment qualification for satellite telecommunication applications management of development contracts for satellite equipment satellite AIT and inorbit testing different types of payload and platform equipment and their functions at satellite level. Candidates should have good interpersonal and communication skills. They should have the ability to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment and to define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines. In addition, applicants should have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to solving problems and an interest in innovative technologies. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language.
