Tigo to buy ETB's stake in Colombia Movil for USD 240 mln

(Telecompaper) Colombian operator Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Bogota (ETB) has agreed to sell its 24.99 percent stake in Colombia Movil to Tigo for COP 463.8 billion (approximately USD 240 million). ETB plans to use the net proceeds from the sale to launch 4G services. Back in June, ETB in partnership with Colombia Movil, acquired 30Mhz of AWS spectrum for provision of 4G services across Colombia. Following the completion of the transaction, ETB will keep 50 percent of this spectrum, El Espectador reports.

Twitter raises USD 1.82 billion in IPO

(Telecompaper) Twitter has priced its initial public offering of shares at USD 26 per share, higher than the already increased range of USD 23-25 per share. With the offering of 70 million shares, this will give the company gross proceeds of USD 1.820 billion. The underwriters have an option to sell another 10.5 million shares in the next 30 days. The shares will start trading on the New York Stock Exchange 07 November.
Huawei to invest USD 600 mln in 5G research

(Telecompaper) Huawei will invest a minimum of USD 600 million in research and innovation for 5G technologies by 2018. The investment will cover a range of key enabling technologies, including the research of air-interface technology. Huawei predicts that the first 5G networks will be ready for commercial deployment starting in 2020 and will deliver peak data rates of over 10Gbps. To date, Huawei has participated in the EU's 5G research projects, worked on the establishment of the 5G Innovation Center (5GIC) in the UK, and participated in joint research programs with over twenty universities around the world. Huawei said it will be an active contributor in building 5G standards and ecosystems to drive a globally consistent standard across the industry.
NTT Com to acquire Virtela for USD 525 mln

(Telecompaper) Japan's NTT Communications has agreed to buy cloud networking services provider Virtela Technology Services for USD 525 million in cash. Together, NTT Com and Virtela will offer customers a single partner for the full lifecycle of enterprise network services, NTT said. Virtela's service activation and advanced management infrastructure will enhance NTT Com's broadband network services provided around the world. The acquisition expands NTT Com's services coverage from 160 to more than 190 countries. NTT Com will also upgrade its cloud-based network services with Virtela's network function virtualisation (NFV) technology to virtualise the functions of customer network equipment, such as firewalls and WAN accelerators.
