The fund will identify and invest in companies whose innovations will be important for a world of connected and intelligent vehicles. The NGP fund, working closely with Here, will seek to make investments that also support the growth of the ecosystem around Here's mapping and location products and services. TDS to acquire BendBroadband for USD 261 million

(Telecompaper) Telephone and Data Systems (TDS) has agreed to acquire substantially all of the assets of a group of companies operating as BendBroadband, headquartered in Bend, Oregon. The acquisition price reaches USD 261 million. BendBroadband reproted revenues of USD 70 million in 2013 and has 280 employees. The transaction is expected to close in this year's third quarter, pending regulatory approvals and other conditions.
Alibaba to invest USD 1.2 billion in video site Youku Tudou

(Telecompaper) Chinese e-commerce group Alibaba has agreed to buy USD 1.22 billion of shares in the Chinese online video platform Youku Tudou. Alibaba is partnering with investment group Yunfeng Capital to buy around 720 million shares in Youku Tudou. This includes 707 million new Class A shares and almost 14 million existing shares, at a price of USD 1.6944 per share. Alibaba will hold 16.5 percent and Yunfeng 2.0 percent in the company after the deal. In addition, Alibaba CEO Jonathan Lu will join Youku Tudou's board of directors upon completion of the transaction.

Pakistan raises USD 1.1 bln in 3G, 4G auction

(Telecompaper) Pakistan has completed its long-awaited 3G spectrum auction, with four operators winning licences. The four qualified bidders - Mobilink, Telenor, Ufone and Zong - each picked up licences for the 2,100 MHz band. Mobilink and Zong each acquired 2x10 MHz for just over USD 300 million, and Telenor and Ufone 2x5MHz each for USD 147.5 million. Zong also acquired one of two 4G licences on offer for the reserve price of USD 210 million. The second will be auctioned later. Sikanadar Naqi, a Zong advisor, told AFP the company plans to begin 3G services in Lahore and Karachi immediately. Operators must pay half the licence fees upfront and the remainder in installments over five years.
