MTS agrees to pay USD 850 mln to settle Uzbekistan bribery charges

(Telecompaper) Russian operator MTS has agreed to pay USD 850 million to settle a case brought by the US over alleged bribery in obtaining licences for MTS Uzbekistan. MTS set aside a provision for the payment already in Q3 2018 and also agreed with the US Department of Justice and SEC to improve its internal controls and compliance checks to prevent future corruption.
Veon revises Ericsson contract, to receive USD 350 mln

(Telecompaper) Veon has revised its contract with Ericsson to upgrade its core IT systems in several countries in the coming years and to release Ericsson from the development and delivery of the Full Stack Revenue Manager Solution. Veon and Ericsson have signed binding terms to vary the existing agreements, and as a result, Veon said it will receive USD 350 million during the first half of this year.

(Telecompaper) African online retailer Jumia is planning an initial public offering in New York this year that could value the business at about USD 1.5 billion, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter. Jumia's largest shareholder MTN Group is planning to raise as much as USD 600 million by selling its shares through the IPO, said one of the people, who asked not to be identified as the information is not public. MTN and Jumia declined to comment.
