Average global broadband prices down just 1.6% to USD 73 a month - study

(Telecompaper) The average price of broadband worldwide has fallen just 1.64 per cent to USD 72.92 a month since the fourth quarter of 2017 even though speeds have accelerated by an average of 23 percent, according to the latest research from Cable.co.uk. The comparison of price data from 3,303 fixed-line broadband deals in 195 countries gathered from 15 August to 20 September revealed that prices fluctuated wildly from just USD 5.0 a month in Ukraine to USD 768.16 in Mauritania.

Broadcom completes buy of CA Technologies, sells Veracode for USD 950 mln in cash

(Telecompaper) Broadcom said it has completed the USD18.9 billion acquisition of CA Technologies. The deal was first announced in July but then hit a short hiccup in October, when a forged memo said it needed to be reviewed by the Committee on Foreign Investment (CFIUS). The deal nevertheless closed a bit earlier than expected. The CA Technologies shares will stop trading on the Nasdaq.

IBM buys Red Hat for USD 34 bln

(Telecompaper) Open source software provider Red Hat has accepted a takeover bid from IBM worth about USD 34 billion in cash, or USD 190.0 per share. IBM CEO Ginni Rometty called the deal a "game-changer," transforming the company into the world's number one hybrid cloud provider. Rommetty said that with Red Hat, IBM will be able to provide a full value open cloud service to help companies continue their move to the a hybrid multi-cloud, with expertise in key technologies such as Linux, containers, Kubernetes, multi-cloud and cloud management, and automation. IBM has been working with Red Hat for 20 years.
Airtel to sell USD 1.25 bln in shares in Africa business to Singtel, Softbank, Temasek

(Telecompaper) Indian operator Airtel has agreed to sell USD 1.25 billion in new shares in its African business to major investors, ahead of an IPO of the operations. Six global investors, including Warburg Pincus, Temasek, Singtel and SoftBank, have agreed to buy the shares, valuing the company at USD 4.4 billion.

Netflix planning USD 2 bln offering

(Telecompaper) Netflix is planning an offering of senior unsecured notes worth USD 2 billion. The issue will be for USD dollar and euro denominated notes. The company said it will put net proceeds towards general corporate purposes, including content acquisitions, production and development, capital expenditures, investments, working capital and potential acquisitions or other strategic transactions.
