The analysis and the implementationtesting of changes, or reengineering that may be required on the basis of user requirements or maintainability issues The testing and validation of new software and databases releases The automated operational Ground stations procedures and related databases The remote operation and the maintenance of EUMETSAT Ground Stations in the areas of Monitoring Control and SW architecture Transfer protocol for the spacecraft telemetry, telecommand and mission data The STC Lab activities by contributing to the system definition and specification of STC Lab applications in support of the different programmes and by contributing to the working practices definition and improvement The key person will be a member of a multidisciplinary system engineering team and will report directly to the SEP Ground Stations Engineering Team Leader, however when working in a given programme, the key person shall report also within the established programme structure. In the performance of these tasks, the key person shall apply the relevant organisational and programmatic quality management procedures as well as the relevant ground stations system engineering standards. PROFILE The Key person shall have a university degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline relevant to the job profile together with the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision. Heshe shall have, as a prerequisite, a demonstrated experience in a similar function for at least 5 years. This experience shall include in particular System software engineering in an operational earth observation environment Monitoring Control software application Maintenance and Configuration Ground Stations Monitoring and Control LinuxWindows operating system TCPIP, SNMP, Serial based communications C and Java programming languages and XML Longterm maintainability analysis and integrating software into a new operating system andor across computer platforms Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage for the Key person to have experience with some of the following Ground stations system and subsystem design and development for TTC, mission specific andor satellite communications ground stations C and Java programming languages and XML Knowledge of multiplexingdemultiplexing schemes applied in Space Links for TTC and payload data transmission e.g. ECSS and CCSDS Standards. Data Base Applications and related configurations control mechanisms The Key person shall be in possession of sound management and interpersonal skills to conduct the responsibilities described above autonomously and with a minimum level of supervision, exhibiting good oral and written communications skills, analytical capabilities, and motivation. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the key person must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other.

Profile The Key Person shall have a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as computer science, mathematics, physics, astrophysics, meteorology or remote sensing. The Key Person shall have at least three years of experience in the field of mathematical modelling and scientific computing. Specifically, the Key Person shall have experience and skills in Numerical algorithms Development and testing of complex scientific software Handling and processing of big amounts of data Object oriented techniques for scientific computing Software tools for revision control Very good skills in a high level programming language, preferably C Advanced use of data analysis and visualisation with tools like Matlab, IDL or equivalent preferably with satellite data. Experience in some of the following areas is expected Inverse problems Principal component analysis Further mathematical modelling techniques nonlinear optimization, regression, neural networks, Kalman filters, etc. Familiarity with satellite data, preferably from IASI or other hyperspectral infrared instruments Use of radiative transfer models Retrieval of atmospheric parameters from infrared andor microwave radiances Data formats and libraries such as HDF5 and NetCDF Software testing Validation and visualization of satellite products Software libraries for numerical linear algebra and similar subroutines Experience with further programming languages and tools such as Python, Ruby, Java, etc. Multithreads programming.
