Mission As a member of the Ground Segment GS team, the Key Person shall provide support to the EPSSG GS requirements analysis, architecture design and requirement implementation of the GS ground stations as part of the EPSSG System. The duties range from the analysis, design, installation, and testing of the ground stations. This may include support to the procurement of hardware and software, and the coordination with external service providers. The tasks will nominally cover the entire development lifecycle. In particular during the initial phase the tasks will include Support to the generation of ground stations related EPSSG concepts, requirements and design documentation at the Architectural Design Level Identifying and translating the relevant EPSSG usersystemground segment level requirements into specific ground stations system requirements Provide support covering all aspects of the EPSSG ground stations specification and design Provide support covering the link budgets of the EPSSG programme Contribute to the definition of the ground segment data flows regarding the interfaces between the ground stations and the rest of the EPSSG ground segment andor satellites from a system engineering point of view Contribute to the preparation of the EPSSG Validation and Verification VV activities in the area of ground stations and the generation of the initial Acceptance Plan. Profile The Key person shall have a university degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline relevant to the job profile together with the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision. It is considered the Key person should have at least 3 years experience in a similar post. Knowledge and experience with the following is considered mandatory System Engineering practices and experience of requirements engineering Phase B of large and complex LEO ground stations Ground stations system and subsystem design for TTC, mission specific and satellite communications ground stations e.g Cortex TTC subsystem Technical background in the specification and VV of large antennas and tracking systems ACU and receivers inclusive TTC baseband equipment including ranging systems and SLE compliant implementations Specification and implementation of Mission Data Acquisition baseband equipment Local and Remote MC system for ground stations System experience with Link budget analysis and tools in S, X and Ka Band. Knowledge and experience with the following is considered an advantage CGMS Global Specifications for Direct Broadcast services Knowledge of ECSS Standards, and in particular ECSS Engineering Standards in the area of RF and modulation standards Knowledge of CCSDS Recommendations, in particular in the area of RF and modulation standards as well as Space Link Extensions related recommendation Knowledge of services providers in the area of Ground Stations Specification and system performances of In Orbit Test systems in support of Satellite In Orbit Verification SIOV activities RF related for Earth Observation satellites preferably LEO systems LEO ground stations maintenance requirements and constraints Industry best practices on maintenance policies and procedures for ground stations supporting operational programmes 247. The HSIRL2 team is responsible for the scientific development, maintenance, validation and routine monitoring of hyperspectral infrared atmospheric sounding products in support of the development and operations of EUMETSATs geostationary and polar orbiting systems. The tasks include the implementation, maintenance, evolution, testing, validation and monitoring of existing and future retrieval and monitoring algorithms and their products, with a main focus on the future MTGIRS Meteosat Third Generation Infrared Sounder. The tasks of the position include in particular Release and validation of new versions of the MTGIRS L2 prototype Integration and verification of external software deliveries in the prototype processor Software anomaly fixing Code optimisation Development and documentation of prototype software and test procedures Generation of test data Statistical analysis and visualisation of hyperspectral infrared Level 2 products Support the transfer and exchange of the expertise developed with IRS L2 to the other hyperspectral infrared missions IASI and IASING Retrieval algorithm specification, validation and tuning Prototype L2 monitoring facilities Qualifications Experience Sound experience in these fields is expected Scientific computing Numerical algorithms Development and testing of complex scientific software Handling and processing of big amounts of data Object oriented techniques for scientific computing Software tools for revision control Very good skills in a high level programming language, preferably C Advanced use of data analysis and visualisation with tools like Perl Data Language PDL, Matlab, IDL or equivalent preferably with satellite data Experience in some of the following areas is expected Inverse problems Principal component analysis Further mathematical modelling techniques nonlinear optimization, regression, neural networks, Kalman filters, etc. Familiarity with satellite data, preferably from IASI or other hyperspectral infrared instruments Use of radiative transfer models Retrieval of atmospheric parameters from infrared andor microwave radiances Data formats and libraries such as HDF5 and NetCDF Software testing Validation and visualization of satellite products Software libraries for numerical linear algebra and similar subroutines Experience with further programming relevant languages and tools such as Perl, Python, Java, etc. Multithreads programming The Key Person shall have good interpersonal skills. The ability to pay attention to details is mandatory, especially in the context of thorough software verification before release. The Key Person must be able to work with the minimum of supervision. In the detail, support will be provided for the following tasks Support to the definition of data processing concepts and their implications on Ground Segment interfaces and architecture, analysis of requirements and constraints imposed on Ground Segment data processing elements, including their impact and criticality, specification and maintenance of Ground Segment and lower level requirements in DOORS with associated traceability and verification methods, including the development of testing concepts and test scenarios, and justification of requirements to be documented in the Ground Segment Design Justification File Maintenance of the functional and architectural model of Ground Segment data processing elements with the selected Model Based System Engineering MBSE methodology and contribution to the Ground Segment preliminary design definition to be documented in the Ground Segment Architectural Design Document and contribution to the Ground Segment Integration, Verification and Validation IVV approach definition for data processing elements, and specification of Interface Requirements Documents IRDs Performance of tradeoffs to assess effectiveness, risks and costs of alternative architectural and technical solutions in the area of data processing and support to the compilation and maintenance of data processing engineering budgets such as data and products volumes, products generation timeliness Support to the procurement of Ground Segment data processing elements by advising on technical solutions proposed by the contractor and by reviewing documentation to confirm its compliance with the requirements, along with support to testing, integration and acceptance of Ground Segment data processing elements by reviewing testing documentation, managing procurement of test data where appropriate and evaluating coherence and adequacy of integration and system level tests. Support to anomaly maintenance and evolutions For maintenance, characterisation of system component behaviour against required performance, maintenance of a systematic overview of anomaly contexts, and proposal and implementation of system alterations including component modification to achieve required performance for evolutions, conceptual design, requirements specification, functional modelling, system analysis, and concept development to support increased performance, rationalisation of components, and cost reduction, along with monitoring and supporting the implementation of evolutions, and documenting the resulting revised relationships between component clusters, functional models, and requirements.
