American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) webinar, scheduled for 11:30 am EDT on March 15, will discuss new Window Product Category Rule pertaining to windows, skylights, curtain wall, and storefront. This hour-long webinar will cover use of new Product Category Rule (PCR), what went into creating it, and how it is used to create Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). Jenelle Sams will serve as primary subject matter expert, and questions will be taken by PCR developers.

During the Manufacturing Safety Forum at AAMA 2016 Annual Conference, attendees heard from speaker Mike Burk of GED Integrated Solutions, an authority on glass safety in the workplace. Burk has been running the Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance (IGMA) Glass Safety Awareness Council since 2011. Burk’s advice to companies is to report near-misses in the workplace to prevent similar incidents; to eliminate use of short cuts, which can be unsafe; and to stress personal protective equipment.

AAMA Conference addresses trending fenestration choices.

During AAMA 2016 Annual Conference, Mollie Carmichael of John Burns Real Estate Consulting and Nick Lehnert of KTGY Architecture and Planning, shared information on trends and design solutions as they pertain to a range of generations and other demographic information. According to Carmichael, there is currently a high percentage (58%) of non-family shoppers, which is defined as single couples with no children. In terms of fenestration trends, solid core doors and wood windows are trending.

AAMA recognized contributions and achievements of its members at the 79th Annual Conference Awards Banquet. Bill Deuschle of Kawneer was named AAMA’s 2016 Outstanding Member. Distinguished Service Award for the Architectural Products Group was presented to Roger LeBrun of VELUX America Inc. and Distinguished Service Award for the Residential Products Group was presented to Cristen Baca of Simonton Windows. Finally, Marketing Distinguished Service Award went to Mark Silverberg of Technoform.

AAMA Releases Improvements, Clarifications to AAMA 507-15.

AAMA 507-15, “Standard Practice for Determining the Thermal Performance Characteristics of Fenestration Systems in Commercial Buildings,” has been updated. According to Joe Hayden (Pella) of AAMA 507 Review Task Group, primary driver for this revision was to improve and clarify reporting certificate – now changed to "Fenestration Product Rating Certificate." Other revisions include removal of outdated information as well as incremental improvements and editorial clarifications.
