Instrument Quality Tool Engineer MTG 1611003 Job Description We are looking for an Instrument Quality Tool Engineer MTG to support our client ESA at their ESTEC site. You will be part of the MTG System team and will cooperate closely with the Instrument Principal Engineer, the System Performance and INR engineer, and the technical support from DTEC where necessary. You will report to the MTGI Product and System Manager, Earth Observation Projects Department, and will be in charge of Follow up the development and procurement of the IRS Quality Tools IQTS, its algorithms and associated tools Follow up the development and procurement of the IRS Payload Data Generator PDG Follow up the definition of the IRS algorithms for simulation, on board processing, and Level 1 ground processing Provide technical support to Satellite and Instrument reviews Provide support to the IRS calibration characterisation onground and inflight activities Provide support to the Validation Verification of the tools. Support the IRS radiometric and geometric performance analyses Interface EUMETSAT in the IQT and PDG meetings Prototype inhouse concurrent IRS geometric, radiometric and spectral performance models. Required Skills and Experience A Masters degree or higher, or equivalent qualification in physics or engineering with experience in data processing of scientific instruments. Experience with software packages such as C, IDL, Matlab. Proven experience in prototyping geometric performance models. Desirable Skills and Experience Experience in Image Navigation and Registration filters would be an asset. Overview The holder of this post will contribute to all aspects project internal activities and monitoringreview of the relevant industrial activities relevant to the system performance of the Biomass mission up to Level 1b TBC products in the context of the design and implementation activities undertaken in the frame of the Biomass Project. The post holder will report to the MTGI Product and System Manager, Earth Observation Projects Department. The Instrument Quality Tool Engineer will work in the MTG System Section and will cooperate closely with the Instrument Principal Engineer, the System Performance and INR engineer, and the technical support from DTEC where necessary. Specific qualification requirements University degree Masters or higher or equivalent qualification in physics or engineering with experience in data processing of scientific instruments. Proven experience in prototyping geometric performance models. Experience in Image Navigation and Registration filters would be an asset. Candidates shall demonstrate good experience with software packages such as C, IDL, Matlab. Ability to work and communicate effectively in English. Be able to work independently and also work with colleagues within a team. Legal and Security Requirements All applicants must be legally allowed to work in The Netherlands Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Aurora will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA. Prior to issuing a letter of employment the applicant shall provide to Aurora a recent official document declaring that they are of good conduct from the country where currently resident. Location The work will be performed at the European Space Technology and Research Centre ESTEC at Noordwijk, The Netherlands. Contract The selected candidate will receive good remuneration. Tasks The Meteosat Third Generation MTG programme was approved by the EUMETSAT Member States and is under development to continue and enhance the services of the EUMETSAT satellite systems from the geostationary orbit in the 2020 time frame. The MTG system foresees 4 satellites MTGI1 to MTGI4 for imaging missions and 2 satellites MTGS1 and MTGS2 for sounding missions flying in a constellation of two imaging and one sounding satellite, relevant launch and LEOP services, and the Ground Segment GS to provide mission control and data acquisition, processing and distribution. This Position is to porvide consultancy services to support GS and system integration, verification and validation IVV activities for MTGI1 and S1 satellites. EUMETSAT is responsible for IVV at Ground Segment and System levels. At a lower level, e.g. ground segment facility level, IVV activities are performed by the relevant contractors and results subject to review and acceptance by EUMETSAT. At Space Segment level, IVV activities are conducted by the space segment industrial consortium as part of the ESA MTG Programme for the protoflight MTGI1 and S1 satellites, and implemented in line with the relevant ESA EUMETSAT Cooperation Agreement. The bulk of ground segment and system IVV work is related to the integration and preparation of the Ground Segment GS and System for the launch, commissioning and operations of the MTGI1 and S1 satellites, nominally between 2016 and 2021. The following phases of MTG IVV need to be supported Integration of facilities and MMEs into the GS, by verification of relevant interfaces, followed by verification of GS requirements Integration of the GS with the Space Segment, the SAFs and the LEOP service by verification of relevant interfaces, followed by verification of system requirements System operational validation.
