Publicly traded dealers have been doing well in used car sales, according to their latest earnings reports. The nations largest retailer, AutoNation, reported that its retail used-vehicle unit sales increased by 9% overall in the second quarter, rising from 52,656 units sold in Q2 2014 to 57,370 units in Q2 2015. Looking at the first half of this year, the number is even larger 10.7% higher than the first half of 2014. A businessman who was conned out of more than R100 000 by a smooth-talking "car dealer" who sold him two cars - neither of which was ever delivered - has laid a criminal complaint and secured a high court order paving the way for the recovery of the money. Intermodal specialist Hub Group Inc. reported net income fell less than 1% to $18.5 million, or 51 cents per share, as revenue also was little changed, rising 1% to $900 million. Forward Air Corp. net income dropped 31% to $11.8 million, or 38 cents, because of costs to implement the acquisition of rival Towne Air.
