ACTIVITIES The Engineer will have the following responsibilities Analysis of product change proposals Design, implementation and validation of updatednew algorithms Documentation of changes related to product updates Preparation of technical notes on product implementation issues Development, maintenance and update of productgeneration monitoring software and the corresponding database Monitoring and operating the product generation facilities Visualisation and analysis of geophysical products. PROFILE The Engineer shall have a University degree in a relevant engineering discipline, such as computer science, physics, mathematics or remote sensing. The Engineer shall have 5 years of experience minimum in operational product generation from satelliteremote sensing data and experience in validation of geophysical products from satellite data. The Engineer shall have practical, demonstrable experience with Algorithm software development using FORTRAN 9095 in a Unix environment Implementation of scientific algorithms from a given specification Source code control systems, preferably Subversion Anomaly correction and configuration management processes Python and IDL programming languages Common meteorological data formats, like BUFR, CAP, GRIB, HDF5, and netCDF UnixLinux operating systems Practical, demonstrable experience of the following will be advantageous Relational databases using SQL Algorithm software development using CC programming language Authoring clear and concise technical documentation The Engineer shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision. The working language for the position is English and therefore the Engineer must be able to work effectively in thislanguage, together with good communication skills. Close Date 27102014

It would be considered a distinct advantage for the Engineer to have experience with the following Imaging and sounding instrumentation for remote sensing spacecraft Programming Languages e.g. C, C and Fortran Scripting Languages e.g. Perl, Python, shell Spacecraft andor ground segment operations Operational use and quality control of satellite data. Tasks The Consultant shall work in the Remote Sensing and Products Divisions RSP Atmospheric and Imagery Applications group AIA. Similarly, the Consultant shall support the design, implementation and validation of new product algorithms. The work is carried out in small project teams consisting of relevant experts.
