MAPPS Software Engineer

For our activities in ESAC, we are currently looking for two MAPPS Software Engineers. Tasks and Responsibilities The MAPPS Mission Analysis and Payload Planning System software is a wellestablished tool in support of the Science Operations Centres SOCs of the ESA Solar System missions. The MAPPS software provides a wide range of planning and simulation features, used in the different phases of the planning process for the scientific experiments and the consolidation and conflict resolution of the overall experiments planning. As MAPPS Software Engineer you will provide software support to contribute to the maintenance and further evolution of the MAPPS software, as well as provide firstline support to the SOCs mission planners and scientific users. Tasks include Implementation of new MAPPS features as defined by the users of the different Solar System missions, following the priorities set by the MAPPS SRB Software Review Board Providing the MAPPS software deliveries following the existing maintenance and release procedures. Improving these procedures where needed, also considering the long lifetime of the software Verification and validation of the software and execution of the test procedures. Further evolution of the test software, e.g. extending the test cases to cover new features and improving the level of automation Provide firstline user support, e.g. helping the user configuring and using any new features, analysing potential bugs and providing fixes. You will have the following tasks and responsibilities Providing the MAPPS software deliveries following the existing maintenance and release procedures. Improving these procedures where needed also considering the long lifetime of the software Verification and validation of the software and execution of the test procedures. Further evolution of the test software, e.g. extending the test cases to cover new features and improving the level of automation Implementation of new MAPPS features, in the area of the Graphical User Interface, and in backend processing software System and software engineering tasks such as design, development, testing installation, deployment, operations, maintenance with associated documentation according to the ESA software engineering processes Daily execution of the software development and maintenance tasks, including the monitoring of the progress and the reporting to management. Coordination various development efforts, such that these fit into the overall MAPPS architecture, following the strategy imposed by the MAPPS engineering board Furthermore, participation to working groups, workshops, conferences and meetings where might be required. Requirements As successful candidate you should bring an Engineering PhD or Master Degree in computer Science or related fields, at least 4 years of professional experience and the following specific knowledge Software engineering and objectoriented programming Programming languages CC, others Graphical User Interface programming Qt toolkit, others Java and or Python for GUI desirable Software Engineering Standards, such as ECSSEST40C Software bug reporting systems, specifically JIRA or others Software versioning systems, specifically GIT or others Windows and Linux, others Experience with operational software development will be an advantage Linux and PCWindows environment Experience on ESA software engineering processes and software configuration control tools and some scientific background would be an asset. LSE Space is looking for an experienced Engineer mf in order to fulfill the duty of Software Build and Deployment Engineer for our customer EUMETSAT in DarmstadtGermany. The primary responsibilities of this role will be As a member of the CSM Software Librarian team, the consultant shall provide support to the development and maintenance of all current and future operational ground segments. The main duties are the maintenance and the redesign of the asbuilt software build environments and the building, packaging and distribution of any software that can be built onsite. Furthermore the duties include a range of tasks, from support to the operation of the UNIX and Windowsbased ground segment facilities, to the analysis, design, development, testing, and maintenance of software functions. They also include the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures as well as the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. In particular the tasks will include Maintenance and development of the asbuilt software build environments Building, packaging and distribution of software releases and patches Support to programmers with respect to software build and development strategies Support the delivery of software externally developed its installation, configuration and testing Investigation into anomalies, their documentation and classification follow up of the delivery of SW corrections Participation in technical meetings and formal reviews Analysis of the maintenance requirements and identification, procurement or implementation of the tools to fulfil them writing of maintenance procedures Interfacing with external contractors who are providing maintenance services for ground segment facilities Requirements In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Key person shall have experience of SW development, configuration controlled software build environments, and experience in SW packaging, installation and configuration for the operation and maintenance of large, realtime Monitoring Control Data Processing systems. The Key person shall have significant work experience in Unix and Unixlike Operating System environments and in Windows and Windows Serverbased environments. HeShe should be familiar, to the extent required by the performance of the above tasks, with networking, distributed applications, and TCPIP services. Knowledge and experience of the following programming languages, software tools and processes is mandatory Essential knowledge and experience in using UnixLinux command line tools Software build environments and tools e.g. autoconfautomake, make, ANT, Maven Source Code control systems, preferably SVN, GIT, CVS or ClearCase Experience with various software packaging formats RPM, PKG, LPP... Experience in unattended, centralized software installation mechanisms PXETFTP, NIM, AutoYast, kickstart etc. Scripting languages e.g. BashShell, Perl, Python ...
