Software Engineer for Flight Dynamics System Support Sentinel3

This is an opportunity for a motivated and experienced engineer to work for our EUMETSAT customer within a new and interesting space mission. Sentinel3 is a Low Earth Orbiting mission in the context of the Copernicus Services set up by the European Commission. The first satellite, Sentinel3A, is expected to launch mid2015 with the second satellite Sentinel3B operating in tandem and due for launch 18 months later. EUMETSATs monitors and controls Sentinel 3 satellites and generates near realtime and offline products to support the marine user community. PROFILE In addition to having a University degree in a relevant engineering discipline the Engineer shall have skills and experience in software maintenance, evolution and testing with the following mandatory areas Domain Skills Experience minimum 3 years in the design, development andor customisation of Satellite Flight Dynamics Systems in the context of LEO missions. System Development Maintenance Skills Experience minimum 3 years in the full cycle of development of application software, preferably for Satellite Flight Dynamics Systems, following formal software engineering processes. This includes user and system requirement analysis, software requirement engineering, software design and implementation reflecting maintenance activities as well as new applications definition. Experience minimum 3 years in corrective maintenance, integration and verification testing activities of application software for Satellite Flight Dynamics Systems following formal software engineering processes. This includes requirement verification, generation oftest plan and test procedures, nonregression testing, generation of test data, generation of test tools, running the test procedures on the target system, generation of test reports, and anomaly tracking, investigation, correction and testing. Software Engineering Skills Experience minimum 3 years in designing and developing software components and applications using Object Oriented 00 approach including design patterns. Experience minimum 3 years in designing and developing software applications using Java and related technologies. Experience minimum 3 years in developing software applications using Eclipse SDE Smart Development Environment and related projects and addons. It would be a distinct advantage for the Engineer to have knowledge andor experience with some of the following Domain Skills Experience with software development and maintenance of Satellite Flight Dynamics Systems and Tools based on the ESAESOC NAPEOS Navigation Package for Earth Observation Satellite Experience with software development and maintenance of Tools using the Orekit space dynamics library. Knowledge of Satellite Mission Control Systems. Knowledge of Mission Planning Systems. Experience with software support to operations for Satellite Flight Dynamics Systems. System Maintenance Skills Experience in being the technical point of contact for contractors working at offsite premises and responsible for application software evolution and maintenance. Software Technology Skills Experience with developing software applications using FORTRAN. IBM DOORS requirement management tool. Experience in version Control Systems CVS and SVN. Linux Operating System. Unified Modelling Language UML for software design. Experience in the usage of software CASE design tools e.g. Enterprise Architect andor MagicDraw. Experience in designing and developing software client applications using Eclipse as HMI framework Rich Client Platform. Experience using tools for the automation of software testing. Experience with static and dynamic software analysis tools in support to testing and troubleshooting. Experience in designing and developing component based software applications using formal techniques e.g. OSGi. Experience in developing software applications using interfaces to relational database management systems RDBMS and experience with data model design for RDBMS. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the Engineer must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other. Preventive and corrective maintenanceincluding the investigation and correction or following the corrections implemented by external contractors of anomalies in the software facilities and verification testing of the fixes. Maintenance test proceduresgeneration and updates of maintenance test procedures at software facility level and at system level. Support and development of the verification infrastructuredevelopment andor procurement of scripts I tools to perform installation checks, nonregression, functional and performance testing. Analysis and implementation of mechanisms or tools allowing the automatic or semiautomatic verification testing of the application software. Coordination of the production of new software releases or patches, delivery acceptance and installation onsite.This activity includes the technical coordination of the production by an external contractor of new releases or patches of the application software, liaison with the EUMETSAT operational users, participation to technical reviews, participation to infactory at contractor premises acceptance testing campaigns and coordination of the installation of the releases or patches onsite at EUMETSAT. Execution and coordination of software verification and nonregression testing campaigns.This activity includes preparation of test data, rwming the test procedures on the target system, generation of test reports, analysis of results and troubleshooting of problems. Solar Orbiter Software Test Engineer

Aurora is an established supplier of skilled manpower to ESA and in particular at ESTEC and ESAC. Aurora has the opportunity to expand our support within the Science and Robotic Exploration Directorate DSRE. Aurora currently has a team of 20 engineers and scientists at ESAC. Overview The work is to provide a number of specialised services to support ESA in developing the Solar Orbiter missions Science Operations Centre SOC at ESAC. This covers software design, definition, implementation and maintenance service support to Solar Orbiter Science Ground Segment SGS development, operations and maintenance at ESAC, including the science operations planning system, the lowlatency data generation and visualization system, the auxiliary data products generation system and also supports the archiving of science data products. Solar Orbiter is the first of the medium size missions in the ESAs Cosmic Vision Science Programme, developed in collaboration with NASA. It is a solar observatory carrying 10 instruments provided by Principal Investigators 6 remote sensing instruments an EUV telescope, a polarimetric telescope, an Xray telescope, a coronagraph, an heliospheric imager, and a spectrometer and 4 insitu instruments magnetometer, radio and plasma waves, energetic particle detector and a solar wind analyser. The primary goal of the mission is to operate the whole payload in a coordinated way to address some of the outstanding scientific questions on the relationship between the Sun and the heliosphere. The spacecraft is expected to be launched in July 2017, and after a 3 month commissioning phase it will cruise for 3.5 years until the proper orbital geometry is achieved. The nominal mission is expected to last 3.5 years more with a post operations phase of 2 additional years. The Solar Orbiter SOC at ESAC is responsible for the development of the SGS following the Science Implementation Requirements provided by the Project Scientist which covers all the operational activities originating from the mission science objectives defined by the Science Working Team SWT, including interactions with the Instrument Teams and the Mission Operations Centre MOC at ESOC. Operational activities for Solar Orbiter cover coordination of science operations for the cruise and nominal phases of the mission, generation of specific quick turnaround low latency data products, production of auxiliary data to support operations, as well as the archiving of Principal Investigator PI provided science data products. Interaction is expected with the members of the Solar Orbiter Science Operations Working Group SOWG and with software engineers in the PI teams. Frequent interactions are expected to take place with the SOC manager, the SOC team members and within the team working on Solar Orbiter. Also, frequent interactions are expected to take place with the Computers Support Group CSG and the Science Archives Team SAT at ESAC. Interactions with the general international community of astronomersusers are also expected via workshops and the helpdesk. Overview The work is to support the ESA Science Ground Segment SGS team which is forming the Euclid Science Operations Centre SOC that will build the Science Ground Segment in collaboration with the Euclid Consortium. The Euclid SOC will execute and monitor the sky survey, perform initial processing on the science telemetry stream and provide the Euclid archive. The Euclid SOC will work with the Euclid Consortium in the area of instrument operations coordination. Euclid is a highprecision survey mission in the Cosmic Vision Programme of ESA designed to answer fundamental questions on Dark Energy and Dark Matter. Euclid will map the largescale structure of the universe over the entire extragalactic sky out to redshifts of 2 about 10 billion years ago, thus covering the period over which dark energy accelerated the universe expansion. In particular, possess the following experience, knowledge and proficiency in At least five years relevant experience in professional software development and software engineering coding with experience with Python applications with good broad knowledge of Python. Implementation of data processing, imaging processing and statistical techniques with Python e.g. using numpy, scipy and matplotlib. Handling common astronomical file formats e.g. FITS. Development andor maintenance of complex ground segment systems. Software system architecture. Software development with specific experience in object oriented software design and development using version control systems. Software development processes and tools configuration management, code generation, continuous integration, automated testing, metrics, coding styles and rules. Working knowledge of Linux systems. Modelling technologies and methodologies and IDE UML. Experience with configuration control systems Subversion. Experience writing user documentation is an advantage. Knowledge of data structures is an advantage. Knowledge of design patterns is an advantage. ECSS Packet Utilization Standard PUS services SCOS2000 Mission Information Base MIB structures. Working with ESA Standards, Frameworks and Tools e.g. ECSS. In addition applicants should Have good communications skills. Be able to document their work. Be willing to travel regularly to ESA establishments andor Instrument teams institutes. Be comfortable in an international working environment and be fluent in English a high level of written and spoken English is essential. Legal and Security Requirements All applicants must be legally allowed to work in Spain without the need to obtain a work visa. Only European Union citizens can be employed by Aurora in Spain. Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Aurora will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA. Prior to issuing a letter of employment the applicant shall provide to Aurora a recent official document declaring that they are of good conduct from the country where currently resident. Location The work will be performed at the ESAC, the European Space Astronomy Centre, at Villafranca del Castillo, near Madrid, Spain. Contract You will be registered for both social security and tax in Spain. The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 29 annual days holiday.
