Software Engineer Mission Control Applications mf The Mission As part of their focus on reuse of generic software and procedures, our customer EUMETSAT seeks consultancy support in the area of mission control for future missions. The Challenge The Terma candidate will support to EUMETSATs Mission Control Applications and Tools Team, contributing to the requirements specification, design and development of Mission Control Applications for new Programs PhaseBCD, including the setting up of the related maintenance arrangements and processes. Tasks can be expected to include contributions in the following areas Definition and maintenance of EUMETSATs mission control applications reference architecture Definition, functional analysis and decomposition of the ground segment requirements Consolidation of the mission control applications requirements within the operational concept Identification of verification methods and initial test cases Reuse of EUMETSAT mission control application kernel products in the ground segment requirements Production of design models Definition and documentation of interfaces with other ground segment and external elements, i.e., production of IRDsICDs Procurement monitoring of internal and external contractors This is a full time position, located in Darmstadt, Germany, and is provisionally scheduled to start as early as December 2014. Your Qualifications We seek a selfmotivated person, comfortable cooperating with others and equally able to independently toward seeing a problem through to solution. Essential skills are 3 years experience in the definition of system requirements andor production of system architectural design artefacts in the domain of ground segment mission control applications. This experience is to include satellite monitoring and control, mission planning and flight dynamics 3 years experience in the software maintenance and evolution of satellite monitoring control systems based on MICONYS software suite, including specific experience with the telemetry and commanding chains, archive and automation Practical experience of the space related standards ECSS and CCSDS specifically, standards applying to packet utilization, space packet protocol and space link extension protocol 5 years experience developing mission control applications according to formal software engineering processes. Specific experience with user and system requirement analysis, software requirement engineering, software design, implementation, corrective maintenance and postdelivery extension 3 years experience with the integration, verification and validation of mission control applications. As a member of the CSM Software Librarian team, the Consultant shall support the technical administration and maintenance of the various facility Intelbased computer hardware platforms, Windows operating systems and configurations of the software installations. The duties shall range from technical support to the continuous operation of the system, including problem analysis, investigation, resolution and definition of maintenance procedures, to the support of procurement of hardware, software and the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. Analysis, planning and execution of HW, OS SW and COTS upgrades and reconfigurations taking into account any compatibility issues Administration of user accounts and software licences. Setup, maintenance and performance of an appropriate level of security, both at host and network level. Analysis of the maintenance requirements and identification, procurement or implementation of the tools to fulfil them. Support to other areas and teams in the maintenance department as requested. Definition, creation and management of technical documentation and procedures in support of these activities. Participation in technical meetings and reviews. Provision of standbycall out support to operations. Provision of support to critical operations out of normal hours, as required. Qualifications Experience Broad experience in the area of technical systems support on distributed Windows 2003, 2008, Windows XP and Windows 7 running on Intelx86 hardware Experience in working in a 247 operational environment characterized by high availability requirements. Summary An exciting opportunity for an experienced software engineer with experience of ESA missions to work for Telespazio VEGA onsite at ESTEC. Objective To contribute to evolution and the maintenance of the MAPPS software and provide 1st line support to the SOCs mission planners and scientific users. Responsibilities Duties Within the EGSE and Ground Systems Section, support is provided to the Science Operations Centres SOCs of the current and future ESA planetary missions, such as Rosetta, BepiColombo, Solar Orbiter, ExoMars 2016 and JUICE. This support includes the development of planning and simulation tools and in particular of MAPPS, which in use by the MarsExpress and VenusExpress missions and is currently being adapted for use by the Rosetta mission The engineer will be assigned in a small team, to contribute to evolution and the maintenance of the MAPPS software, as well as to provide firstline support to the SOCs mission planners and scientific users, based at ESAC Madrid. The engineer will be assigned to the EGSE and Ground Systems Section of the Software Systems Division and shall function as an integrated team member of the development team, in charge of the following initial tasks Implementation of new MAPPS features, especially in the area of the Graphical User Interface, but also in backend processing software.
