Software Engineer for Science Operations Key Tasks and Responsibilities As a member of the Gaia Science Operations Team, you will have the following responsibilities Develop and maintain modules, applications and tools specific to product generation framework and quality control framework Ensure timely delivery of SW releases and relative increments Perform SW architectural design as needed Prepare and maintain SW documentation Develop and maintain unit test harnesses Report on progress and problem areas Participate in the Configuration Control Boards applicable to the development and operation of the software Followingup and tracking the correction and resolution of problem reports Implement approved software enhancement requests. Science Data Processing Software Engineer

This is a permanent position, calling for considerable experience of engineering large, complex, realtime data processing systems. You will be placed on assignment based near Frankfurt in Germany for several years. Candidates should ideally be available to start in July 2015. Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. Vast quantities of data are produced and user communities throughout the world are able to access both current and historical data sets. The demanding realtime environment places much emphasis on adherence to quality and configuration management standards and procedures. The jobholder will focus on supporting the maintenance and evolution of the clients data processing facilities. Duties will include a range of tasks, from the support of the day to day operations and maintenance, to the handling of anomalies, upgrades and configuration changes for these facilities. Besides these routine tasks, you will also be expected to contribute to requirements specification, design and system engineeringreengineering, development and testing activities in the field of science data processing that will become necessary for existing and future production systems. The key experience and attributes sought are Engineering of large, complex, realtime data processing systems, including requirements specification, design, software maintenance or development, formal software testing and system integration Operating or maintaining software systems in a UNIX or LINUX based environment Software build environments and tools e.g. IBM XL C and GCC compilers, make, automake, autoconf, RPM Software debugging and profiling tools e.g. GDB, IBM Purify, Valgrind Source code control systems e.g. primarily Subversion, Git CC programming language experience in a UNIX or LINUX based environment Scripting languages e.g. Perl, shell Analysis and processing of softwaregenerated reports and logfiles Web technologies and programming e.g. Apache, CGI, JavaScript Networking technologies and tools e.g. Space Data Link Protocols, TCPIP, UDP multicast, PGM, FTP, Wireshark Very good technical writing skills, in particular in the area of formal technical documentation, e.g. requirements specification and design documentation, test plans and procedures, maintenance procedures The main working language is English and candidates must be fluent in both reading and writing but knowledge of French also would be advantageous. Satellite Mission Control Software Engineer

Our client, based near Frankfurt in Germany, is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. They are seeking consultancy support for software development and maintenance of mission control components and applications designed with an objectoriented approach and client server architecture. The development cycle includes the typical phases requirements, design, development, testing with formal procedures related to configuration control, verification against the software requirements and rollout into operations. Development ranges in a mixed Windows and Unix environment, from fixing problems and engineering changes, technical support to the continuous operation of the system, including analysis, investigation and resolution with creation of appropriate documentation. The Consultant shall have the following mandatory skills and experience o Extensive experience minimum 5 years in the definition, development and maintenance of Mission Control Functions software applications for GEO space missions, in particular, experience in the whole life cycle of development of typical applications like telemetry and telecommand chains, automation schedule and procedure execution, operations preparation, analysis, etc... o Good knowledge and understanding with working experience evidence of space related standards ECSS and CCSDS related to spacetoground interfaces. o Extensive experience minimum 5 years in software development and maintenance following formal software life cycle processes resulting in multiple customer deliveries. This includes production of requirements, design engineering artefacts and implementation reflecting corrective and evolution software maintenance activities as well as new applications definition o Extensive experience minimum 5 years in ground segment AIV related activities test procedure generation, nonregression testing, requirements verification and validation. o Extensive experience minimum 5 years in designing and developing software components and applications using Object Oriented OO approach including design patterns o Extensive experience minimum 5 years designing, developing and programming software applications using C and Java under both Windows and Linux platforms o Experience with formal software development environments like Eclipse IDE and Microsoft Visual Studio. o Very good knowledge of MS Windows Office Suite applications and experience with documentation management systems o Experience in using configuration Management and anomaly reporting and tracking tools.
