For our activities at EUMETSAT, we are looking for a Mission Control Applications Software Engineer for the Sentinel3 mission. Sentinel3 is a Low Earth Orbiting mission to support services relating to the marine and global land environment, with capability to serve further atmospheric and cryosphericbased application areas. The objectives of the Sentinel3 mission encompass the commitment to consistent, longterm collection of remotely sensed marine and land data, of uniform quality, for operational ocean state analysis, forecasting and service provision, in the context of the Copernicus Services as set up by the European Commission. Tasks The Mission Control Applications Software Engineer MCASE shall provide prime support to the evolution and maintenance of the EUMETSAT Copernicus Sentinel3 Flight Operations System FOS, Mission Planning System and the TMPropagator Tool. The Flight Operations System is composed of the Mission Control System, the Flight Dynamics System and OpsPrep Tools. The TMPropagator Tool is used for the distribution over the Internet to the endusers of spacecraft and ground telemetry in realtime and also playback. Qualifications and Requirements A University degree or equivalent plus 8 to 10 years of experience A minimum of 5 year experience in the following mandatory areas Design and maintenance of Satellite Mission Control Systems, Flight Dynamics Systems and Mission Planning Systems Full development lifecycle of application software, including integration, verification testing and maintenance phases, following formal software engineering processes Software engineering applied to design and development of software components and applications using Object Oriented OO approach Space related standards ECSS and CCSDS concerning spacetoground interfaces and applicable to Satellite Mission Control Systems Development of software applications using C under UNIX operating systems. DUTIES The postholder will report to the Head of the Flight Software Systems Section. The Sections core activity consists in providing support to ESA programmes in the development of flight software for satellites and spacecraft. This includes specification, analysis, design, validation and maintenance activities in respect of software embedded in the spacecraft platform and payloads. The Section is also the focal point for development of Software Validation Facilities and Independent Software Verification and Validation. The responsibilities will include providing specialist technical support to ESA projects within the realtime embedded software systems domain, including flight software and flight software development and validation facilities participating in the evaluation of industrial proposals and in project reviews technical monitoring of software development contracts, including verifying industrial outputs, reviews and acceptance providing expert software support to the Avionics System Group in the definition of onboard avionics concepts and architectures, including highly integrated and reconfigurable systems participating in the definition and execution of the research programmes in the area of competence of the Division, in particular related to software architectures, software validation and modern software engineering methods and tools to improve the development and qualification process of embedded software contributing to the standardisation effort in the software systems domain. The postholder may also be called upon to support other activities elsewhere in the organisation. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in computer science andor electrical engineering or similar, with a background and experience in embedded realtime systems. Extensive knowledge of modern software engineering and practical experience in realtime software systems is required. Knowledge of spacecraft systems engineering would be an advantage. Candidates should have good interpersonal and communication skills. They should have the ability to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment and to define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines. In addition, applicants should have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to solving problems and an interest in innovative technologies. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language.
