Vodafone Portugal to host Group's centre for TV development

Vodafone Portugal has been selected by the Vodafone Group to host a Competence Centre for the development and management of next generation TV. Known as TV Hub, the Centre will be the innovation laboratory for the various markets where the Group operates.

Vodafone UK launches contactless payment service

(Telecompaper) Vodafone UK is launching its own payment service, which works with PayPal, Visa and Mastercard cards. Customers need to download the Vodafone Pay app for Android smartphones and have a NFC-enabled SIM card in order to use the service. After linking their payment card or PayPal account to the app, they can use Vodafone Pay to purchase goods and services by tapping their smartphone in more than 400,000 places across the UK that accept contactless payments.

India sells less spectrum than expected, Vodafone tops bids

(Telecompaper) The Indian government raised a total INR 657.89 billion in the country's largest ever spectrum auction that closed on 6 October. The government sold only 40 percent of the record 2,353MHz airwaves on auction, as the 700 MHz band failed to attract any bidders. The government would have raised INR 5.6 trillion if all the spectrum on auction had been sold at the reserve price.

Vodafone starts testing LTE-V2X for car communications

(Telecompaper) Vodafone announced that it has started trialling vehicle-to-vehicle communications using the 4G extension LTE-V2X in the UK and is planning further trials in Germany. LTE-V2X enables cars to chat with each other to improve road safety and efficiency. LTE-V2X means connecting vehicles (V) to everything (X). Vodafone is working with industry partners to develop LTE-V2X through the standards organisation 3GPP. Vodafone and Huawei will be discussing the plans at the Paris Motor Show.
