Ground Segment System Engineer

One of our clients in Germany is looking for a Ground Segment System Engineer. The candidate will initially cover the system and interfaces engineering activities in support to the routine operations of various operational programmes. In the frame of support provided by the TSS Department to the development of new programmes, the duties will then gradually evolve to also provide support to the future programmes, in the area of ground segment system engineering and, in particular, interfaces definition. Tasks As support to the Ground Segment System Engineering Team, the Key person shall contribute to maintain the overall system design documentation of the operational systems. When evolutions of the systems are proposed and implemented, the Key person shall analyse them and verify the system and interfaces coherence. In the role of support to the maintenance and evolution activities of the operational programmes, the Key person shall also Coordinate the maintenance, for all the operational ground systems, of a complete and consistent set of System Technical Documentation. Perform technical analysis of system architecture and specification evolutions or major upgrades of the operational ground systems, for interfaces coherence and compatibility check with other ongoing developments. Define the IVV testing approach for major evolutions of the operational ground systems and contribute to the coordination of the installation, integration and verification of new systems into the Operational infrastructure. Contribute to the various OPS TSS Projects and associated reviews, as required, providing System Engineering support during the design phase and contribute actively to the definition of the IVV activities. Perform analysis, investigations and resolution of system level anomalies. Support the SEP System Engineer on all related activities as requested. Support the OPS regular coordination processes, including CRBs and ARBs, as requested. In the role of support to the development of new GEO and LEO programmes, the tasks of the Key person shall include Participate to the definition of the system architecture and interfaces between the multimission elements and the programme specific elements of the ground system. In coordination with the system and interface engineers of the future ground segment, ensure that the definition and documentation of new interfaces are compatible with the methodology used in Operations this includes the use of common templates for Interface Control Document and the use of the same tool for maintaining the interfaces data dictionary. Provide support to the definition of the IVV approach for the future ground systems. Promote the implementation of the TSS working practices regarding system maintainability and evolutions. Qualifications A University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline. Experience The Key person shall have at least three years experience in the following areas Development and maintenance of complex operational ground systems, preferably for remote sensing spacecraft with large reuse of existing generic infrastructure and functional elements. System and Interfaces Engineering AIT experience for the development of major upgrades new ground systems in a 247 operational environment. Interfaces requirements definition, engineering and test, including the generation and maintenance of Interface Control Documents, with support of tools. In addition, for the accomplishment of the listed tasks, proven knowledge and experience in the following of at least two of the following areas Satellite monitoring and control systems. Data processing. Dissemination. Archive systems. Ground Stations. Knowledge and Skills It would be a distinct advantage for the candidate to have proven knowledge in the following Full development cycle of large systems, from the definition of requirements to system design and testing. System requirements management and functionalarchitectural modelling, with support of tools e.g. DOORS. System architectural design experience in the use of modelling and design tools in support of it will be considered an advantage e.g. Enterprise Architect. Configuration Control processes and tools. Familiarity with the ECSS standards. The Key person shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with a minimum of supervision. Due to the nature of the position, the Key person shall have good interpersonal skills and proactive attitude with strong ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment.

One of our clients in Germany is looking for a System and Ground Stations Operations Preparations Engineering Support. The key candidate, amongst some other tasks, will support the RSO division but shall initially provide support to the development and operations preparation of the MTG Programme focussing on system and ground station aspects, ensuring they are brought to a suitable level for the transition of the programme into routine operations. Tasks The Key Persons main duties will include the support to System and Ground segment operations preparation activities. Ground segment procurements for the future programmes including acceptance and validation phase. Review documentation and attend formal reviews as part of the procurement process. Supporting and witnessing IVV testing for future programmes. Definition and maintenance of operations procedures, including system and ground segment procedures and operations guides. Liaison with the spacecraft operations team to ensure the continuity and optimisation of spacecraft monitoring and control activities. Day to day operations of current and future ground stations including daytoday planning, monitoring and first line anomaly investigations. Processing and coordination of system and ground segment anomalies in particular but not limited to ground stations, their documentation, investigation, classification and resolutionmitigation, including participation in Anomaly Review Boards. Analysis of ground station obsolescence, and upgrade paths within a 247 operations environment. Participation in technical meetings, formal reviews, and scheduling and planning meetings. Provision of training, through written materials, practical demonstrations and presentations, to other members of the Operations and Engineering Teams. Qualifications A university degree in a relevant technical discipline or the equivalent work experience. Experience Key Person shall have the following mandatory attributes At least three years experience in a realtime spacecraft operations environment. At least three years experience in the routine operations of satellites preferably in an earth observation environment. Experience of the preparation and use of operational procedures, databases, displays and documentation. Experience of the following would be a distinct advantage Experience in the operations preparation and routine operations of Geostationary GEO and or Low Earth Orbit LEO satellite systems. Experience in the procurement phase of ground segments for satellite monitoring and control and mission data reception, ideally in the Earth Observation domain. Experience of document management and configuration control processes. Experience of development and upgrades within a 247 operations environment.
