Telecommunications System Engineer 1911001 Job Description We are looking for a Software Engineer for our customer, ESTEC, and their Ground Software Systems and Functional Verification Section of the Software Systems Division. You will support activities related to EGSE systems Project such as eSail, PLATO support on the procurement, development and utilisation of EGSE systems, including problem solving, interfaces with external systems and project reviews. Project support for Ground Software Systems, such as the EarthCare Operational Scientific Ground Segment development, Level 0, 1 and 2 dataprocessing, visualisation. This includes generic software engineering, software development support, collaborative software development environment support, software acceptance compilation, installation, running tests. Support on RD studies, specifically related to the currently under development European Ground System Common Core EGSCC, which will be the basis of the future Electrical Ground Support Equipment EGSE and Mission Control Systems MCS infrastructures in Europe. Maintenance and future developments of the EGSE Reference Facility as part of the Software Systems Laboratory. This includes software builds and integration of industrial elements to the EGSE reference facility as well as the functional verification in endtoend scenarios, maintenance of an EGSE software libraryconfiguration managementlab website, evaluation of needs and generation of requirements for enhancements. Support Standardization activities in the EGSE domain e.g. E7030 Monitoring and Control Data Definition, E7032 Test and Operations Language, E7041 PUS, E1023 Space System Data Repository. Required Skills and Experience Master degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Space Systems Engineering, Mathematics or a related discipline. A minimum of 4 years extensive practical experience of implementing and building complex software systems in the space domain, in developing and utilizing EGSEs, in modelling monitoring and control data in compliance with the ESA monitoring and control systems legacy systems such as SCOS or future systems such as EGSCC. Knowledge of modern software engineering practices and standards applied to realtime systems. Knowledge of Space Systems and Space System Engineering is necessary. In particular experience with one or more topics such as SW development Java, Eclipse Service oriented and component based architectures OSGi, Karaf UnixLinux system administration and programming Configuration management and build of large SW projects Git, Maven, Jenkins, Nexus, Gradle Object Oriented design methods and corresponding tools e.g. MagicDraw Databases Oracle, Postgres, Hadoop SCOS 2000 and the SCOS 2000 MIB ICD Experience with the relevant ECSS standards particularly PUS and its tailoring An ability to work independently and to establish good working relations with ESA and industrial counterparts is essential. For our customer in Darmstadt, we are looking for a Ground Stations System Engineer to support engineering related activities of the ground stations allocated to the various EUMETSAT programs mainly MTG, EPSSG and JasonCS. The post will also provide engineering support to the existing MSG and EPS programmes. These cover geostationary GEO and low Earth orbit LEO orbital regimes. Task and Responsibilities The candidate shall support the activities of ground segment developments in the areas of Ground Stations, RF and Telecommunications. In doing this, heshe shall support The follow up of the detailed design and development activities of Phase BCD of the future ground segments in the areas of Ground Stations, RF and Telecommunications mainly for EPS SG and JasonCS activities. The MTG Mission Data Acquisition Facility Ka band antenna and TTCF S band antenna Warranty and Maintenance phases in the areas of Telecommunications, RF and Ground Stations, The maintenance and evolution in phase E to the other programmes within EUMETSAT supporting operations MSG, EPS, Jason, ,.. in the areas of Telecommunications, RF and Ground Stations, The key person will support a multidisciplinary system engineering team. In the performance of these tasks, the key person shall apply the relevant organisational and programmatic quality management procedures as well as the relevant ground stations system engineering standards. Skills and Experience The key person shall have a university degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline relevant to the job profile together with the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks. Heshe shall have, as a prerequisite, a demonstrated experience in a similar function for at least 2 years. This experience shall include in particular Ground stations system and subsystem design and development for TTC TTC baseband equipment and SLE compliant implementations Ground stations system and subsystem design and development for mission specific andor satellite communications ground stations Technical background in the specification and VV of ground stations and large antennas and tracking systems for GEO and LEO satellites Knowledge of modulationdemodulation schemes applied by Ground to Space ICD for TTC and payload data transmission e.g. ECSS and CCSDS Standards. In addition, the knowledge and experience of the following processesareas is considered as an asset Competence and experience in the engineering processes for managing requirements from the definition phase through the traceability, verification, validation and maintenance stages using formal methods and tools e.g. DOORs System experience with Link budget analysis and tools in S, X and Ka Band. Standard RF and microwave tools and SW package for generation of signal processing related simulations andor semiautomated measurement procedures. Travel to Ground Stations and backup control centres located within Europe may be required for certain activities. The candidate must be able to work effectively in English. Due to the nature of the tasks, it is estimated that up to 20 of the activities may be conducted outside of EUMETSAT premises offsite.
