Copernicus Ground Segment System Engineer

For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for a Copernicus Ground Segment System Engineer. Main responsibilities Tasks and Responsibilities Within the System Engineering and Project Division SEP of the Technical and Scientific Support Department TSS, you will work in the Ground Segment System Engineering team GSSE, supporting the requirement management, design, development and implementation of the ground segments of the Copernicus missions under EUMETSAT responsibility, having a particular emphasis on the continuity of operations and the control of changes and evolutions of the systems. The initial focus of your activities will be the development of capabilities to reach full engineering professionalism in the area of system engineering of operational ground segments. Once your basic skills and capabilities have been developed and exercised, you will support the Sentinel3 Operations with respect to EUMETSATs S3 Ground Segment maintenance and necessary evolutions. Your duties will include a range of tasks, including among others Participate in the system engineering processes for managing requirements through the lifecycle of ground segments, using formal methods and toolse.g. DOORS for maintenance, traceability, verification and validation of requirements Support the technical analysis of the architecture and specifications of major upgrades of ground segments, in order to ensure coherence and compatibility with other ongoing developments and identify impacts on baseline technical documentation Contribute to maintaining the reference architecture of the overall EUMETSAT ground segment through the assessment of relevant technologies and design options, based on a Model Based Engineering approach Support the definition of the Integration Verification Validation IVV approach and the related tests for evolutions of existing systems and installation of new systems Support the maintenance of a complete and consistent set of system level documentation and drawings. Preparing and providing support to the day to day operation and maintenance of the Copernicus S3 ground segment, including the handling of the anomalies raised during the operation of the system and control of changes. In support to operations, you may also be required to provide on call support as part of a team of maintenance engineers. Ideal candidate Requirements Essentials You should bring a university degree or equivalent in system engineering or other relevant discipline and at least three years of working experience in the following fields System Engineering for the development, or major upgrades, of Ground Segments for Earth Observation missions, or their main components Software development lifecycles, system testing for Earth Observation systems and knowledge of the Ground System Engineering processes and standards i.e. ECSS. Furthermore you should bring the following Readiness to learn Proactiveness High degree of autonomy Good analytical skills Excellent interpersonal skills. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore you must be able to work effectively in this language. Desirables The following technical skills will be valued, although they are not considered as mandatory Experience in the support to the operations and maintenance of Ground Segments, or main components of them Definition, management and traceability of requirements structure with the support of dedicated tools e.g. DOORS Background in data processing or control systems engineering, remote sensing technology or digital signal imagery data processing Initial experience in testing, integrating, verifying and or validating data processing ground systems or equivalent, ideally in a highavailability 247 operational context. You will have the opportunity to develop and support the mission control system and its addon tools that will operate Europes future generation of satellite and space missions. The European Ground Systems Common Core EGSCC is a European initiative to develop a common infrastructure to support space systems monitoring and control in pre and postlaunch phases for all mission types.
