A man walks into a bar...A tale of telecom investment woes

2017-10-13 02:00:00| Total Telecom industry news

The European telecoms market is very much like a young man going out on the pull and failing. As unlikely as that metaphor might seem, that was the message from many of the stakeholders gathered in Lisbon this week for Connected Europe, although it took industry industry analyst John Strand to put it into those words. Discussions with the investment community show that Europe is considered a less attractive region to invest in than others worldwide, Strand said. "It's basically like if you're single, you go to a bar, you meet a nice girl and she says, 'listen, you're the least attractive man in this bar,'" he said. Strand blames over-regulation for that situation. 2017-10-13 02:00:00| Total Telecom industry news

AT&T warns for decline in video subscribers during Q3

2017-10-12 19:32:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) AT&T expects nearly 300,000 DirecTV Now net adds, though total US video subscribers will fall by about 90,000. AT& said the video net losses were driven by heightened competition in the traditional pay-TV markets and OTT services, and hurt by the recent hurricanes and stricter credit standards. The decline of traditional video subscribers negatively hit Entertainment Group revenues and margins, which means the adjusted operating profit margin will be essentially flat year-on-year.
