Mail.ru, Megafon partner Alipay to start Russian payments joint venture

(Telecompaper) Russian internet company Mail.ru Group, the mobile operator Megafon, the Chinese payment platform Alipay, Megafon's shareholder USM, and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) have announced plans to form a joint venture for digital payment services for Russian users, as part of efforts to promote financial inclusion across the country.

Telia gains EU approval for Bonnier Broadcasting acquisition with conditions

(Telecompaper) Telia Company has announced that the European Commission has approved its acquisition of Bonnier Broadcasting, including TV4, MTV and C More. The commission said this is conditional on full compliance with a commitments package offered by Telia to ensure competition on the Nordic broadcasting market. The commitments will be applicable in Finland and Sweden for a duration of ten years.

MTN uses OpenRAN to deploy more than 200 rural sites in Africa

MTN expects to instal more than 5,000 sites in rural areas throughout its 21 operations, bringing 2G, 3G and 4G connectivity to areas that were previously unconnected. MTN will use a network of partners to build and maintain through a full turn-key approach.

Iliad accelerates revenue growth in France in Q3, plans share buyback offer

(Telecompaper) Iliad reported group revenues of EUR 1.34 billion for the third quarter to September, up 8.1 percent year-on-year (+8.4% in H1). In its core French market, growth in service revenues improved for the third consecutive quarter, as Free returned to positive customer growth in the fixed broadband segment. Alongside its financial results, the company unveiled plans for a EUR 1.4 billion public share buyback offer and announced the adoption of a new dividend policy of EUR 2.60 per share.

Vodafone Spain sales down another 8.7% in September quarter, customer numbers stable

(Telecompaper) Vodafone Spain reported organic service revenues down a further 8.7 percent year on year to EUR 978 million in its fiscal second quarter to the end of September, compared to declines of 9.3 percent and 8.0 percent in the previous two quarters, attributed to the continued impact of commercial actions taken over the past year to improve the competitiveness of its offers, the decision not to renew what it described as "unprofitable" football content rights and a shift in overall market demand towards the value segment.

Vodafone Italia service revenues improve to a 3.5% decline on fixed line boost

1&1 Drillisch sees increase in revenues and customers but decline in EBITDA in first 9 months

(Telecompaper) German operator 1&1 Drillisch said that in the first nine months of 2019, its revenues rose by 1.3 percent to EUR 2.75 billion from EUR 2.71 million in the same period last year. Consolidated EBITDA declined by 3.1 percent, or EUR 16.1 million, to EUR 508.7 million in the period compared with EUR 524.8 million in the first nine months of 2018.

Vodafone returns to service revenue growth in Q2, raises FY EBITDA forecast

(Telecompaper) Vodafone Group reported a small rise of 0.4 percent in revenues for its fiscal first half to September to EUR 21.94 billion, helped by its takeover of activities from Liberty Global from August. Adjusted EBITDA was up 2.7 percent to EUR 7.11 billion, while the net result was a loss of EUR 1.89 billion due to one-time charges in India.
