SUMMARY OF WATCHES AND WARNINGS IN EFFECT: A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for... * Cabo Rojo to Puerto Veracruz A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area, in this case within the next few hours. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 100 AM CDT (0600 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Chris was located near latitude 20.0 North, longitude 96.7 West. Chris is moving toward the west near 13 mph (20 km/h), and this general motion is expected during the next day or so. On the forecast track, the center of Chris will continue farther inland over eastern Mexico through today. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Weakening is expected as Chris moves farther inland, and the system will likely dissipate over the higher terrain later today. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1005 mb (29.68 inches). RAINFALL: Tropical Storm Chris is expected to produce rainfall totals of 4 to 8 inches across portions of eastern Mexico through today. Maximum rainfall totals around 12 inches are possible across the higher terrain of the Mexican states of Guanajuato, Queretaro, and San Luis Potosi. This rainfall will result in areas of flooding, with mudslides possible in areas of higher terrain. 000 ABNT20 KNHC 010542 TWOAT Tropical Weather Outlook NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 200 AM EDT Mon Jul 1 2024 For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico: Active Systems: The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Hurricane Beryl, nearing the Windward Islands and recently upgraded Tropical Storm Chris, located inland over eastern Mexico. Central Tropical Atlantic (AL96): Showers and thunderstorms continue in association with an area of low pressure located about 1000 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. Environmental conditions appear conducive for additional development of this system, and a tropical depression is likely to form by the middle part of this week while it moves generally westward at 15 to 20 mph across the central and western tropical Atlantic.
