Dissemination Operations Engineer Copernicus Sentinel3 MW

TASKS This is an opportunity for a motivated and experienced engineer to work for our EUMETSAT customer within a new and interesting space mission. Sentinel3 is a Low Earth Orbiting mission in the context of the Copernicus Services set up by the European Commission. The first satellite, Sentinel3A, is expected to launch mid2015 with the second satellite Sentinel3B operating in tandem and due for launch 18 months later. EUMETSATs monitors and controls Sentinel 3 satellites and generates near realtime and offline products to support the marine user community. As a member of the Realtime Services System Operations Division RSO, the Key person shall provide support to the routine monitoring, development and operation of the Copernicus S3 dissemination systems. The duties range from the support to the operation of the various dissemination components, to the analysis, testing, and implementation of new data streams and monitoring and reporting functions. It also includes the settingup and implementation of operational procedures, and the coordination with external organisations and service providers. PROFILE In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Key person shall have minimum 3 years experience in operations or software maintenance of realtime data dissemination systems, and be familiar with DVB satellite communications and ground segment operations. The Key person shall have significant work experience on operating system level in major Linux distributions and Windows Windows XP, 7, 8. For the accomplishment of the listed tasks, knowledge and experience of the following is mandatory Computer literacy, including Configuration, installation and scripting for Linux and Windows Evaluationanalysis of systemapplication events and logs Tool based presentation of logs and results Excel etc. Monitoring of near real time data flows in large computer networks Satellite based and terrestrial data distribution systems Provision of near realtime data services in a highavailability environment 247 First and second level support in data services Interaction with endusers Formalised hardwaresoftwaresystem testing Configuration control. Desirable requirements Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage for the Key person to have experience with the following DVB based receiveonly earth stations for satellite communications DVBS2 technology. PROFILE In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the engineer shall have the following background Demonstrated thorough understanding of space flight dynamics concepts and techniques, with special emphasis on Low Earth Orbit LEO regimes At least 5 years experience of flight dynamics system development or operations based on NAPEOS or derived software At least 3 years of general programmingsoftware development F90, TCLITK and, as desirable, Matlab and Java Ability to understand and synthesise complex issues and to express ideas and issues clearly. The Engineer shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision. The official languages of EUMETSA T are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the engineer must be able to work effectively in this language, together with good communication skills. TASKS EXPERIENCE The Flight Dynamics Engineer FDE shall perform the tasks related to flight dynamics operations, primarily involving the determination and maintenance of the satellites orbit and generation of products for the Payload Data Ground Segment PDGS and Flight Operations Segment FOS. The Copernicus Sentinel3 Flight Dynamics Facility S3FDF is based on NAPEOS product, already in use by EUMETSA T EPS mission. The FDE performs or contributes to the maintenance, update, validation and documentation of the S3FDF operational implementation and application software in all mission phases. The main tasks will include Support to the ground segment operational preparation activities in the area of Flight Dynamics as required prior to launch of Sentinel3 satellites, including Flight Dynamics database preparation, definition of operational procedures, generation of related operational configuration data and participation to operational validation of satellite and groundsegment operations Support Flight Dynamics activities during launch and commissioning, as required for the Sentinel3 satellites, including startup of Flight Dynamics system and initialisation of Flight Dynamics operational data, assessment of handover conditions, inflight validation of Flight Dynamics performances and transition to routine operations Review of Sentinel3 spacecraft and groundsegment technical documentation and participation and transition to routine operations, perform required mission and system studies, preparing technical notes and attending to technical meetings as requested Preparation and maintenance of Flight Dynamics operational configuration and procedures for spacecraft routine, contingency and special operations Routine Flight Dynamics operations including spacecraft orbit determination and prediction, events computation and generation of related orbit products or predictions, Attitude and Orbit Control System AOCS telecommand parameter generation and telemetry monitoring as necessary Planning and execution of spacecraft manoeuvres, as well as their evaluation, thrusters calibration and maintenance of fuel budget estimates Planning and related implementation of collision avoidance manoeuvres as well as support to contingency operations, including recovery of routine operations, satellite safe mode support and operation transfer to the BackUp Control Centre these activities may require intervention during the night and the nonworking days Performance analysis of the Flight Dynamics operations, with special focus on the areas impacting end user services or product performances, and implementation of corrective actions as necessary Preparation and production of related routine reports as necessary How to apply Please consider the following points before applying Please submit your complete application documents in English. The MCSE performs or contributes to the maintenance, update, validation and documentation of the mission control operational implementation and application software. The operational implementation is defined in the relevant operations procedures and documentation produced by and for the operations team, execution scripts used to operate andor maintain the FOS MCS, and operational databases and displays related to satellite payload and platform monitoring and control, in the context of the provision of Sentinel3 operational services. Engineer Mission Planning, Sentinel3 mf The Mission Our customer, EUMETSAT, will be managing routine phase flight operations for the Sentinel3 low earth orbiting satellites. The first Sentinel3 spacecraft is currently scheduled for launch in September 2015. The objectives of the Sentinel3 earth observation mission include measurement of seasurface topography, sea and landsurface temperature and ocean and landsurface colour in support of ocean forecasting and environmental monitoring. The Challenge We are looking for a Engineer to be located at our customers site in Darmstadt, Germany who will support our customer with mission planning for the Sentinel3 spacecraft. The Engineer will make use of the existing payload data ground segment mission planning facility and flight operations segment mission planning system, within a SCOS2000 based mission control system. The Engineer will contribute to the maintenance, validation and documentation of the mission planning operational implementation and application software in all mission phases. This operational implementation resides in relational databases and associated business rule management systems, and is used to generate schedules related to satellite payload and platform mission planning. Individual tasks include Generation of routine mission planning products Development of mediumterm operational planning in close cooperation with flight dynamics and spacecraft operations engineers Maintenance of mission planning tools, specification and validation of externallyprocured tools, upgrade of internal tools Testing of upgrades and new configurations Contribute to streamlining of the planning and commanding workflow This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date in March April 2015.
