Earth Observation Instrument Processing Chain VV Engineer MF Telespazio VEGA Deutschland has been supporting the European Space Industry for over 30 years, including ESA, DLR, CNES and EUMETSAT. This is a job for an university graduated engineer with at least 5 years experience in the development and test of onground processing of data for Low Earth Orbit Earth Observation satellite instruments. RESPONSIBILITIES DUTIES The activities performed by the keyperson will be an input for the overall System and ground segment VV activities. The keyperson will typically be involved in tasks related to test tools test data, with focus on tools data required for VV of instrument data processing chains. Tools can serve for example the purpose of test data generation manipulation reformatting, test data injection into the ground segment and test data collection analysis. Typical tasks include Identification of the suite of test tools and test data required to support VV activities, and definition of development procurement approach and associated planning. Preparation of User Requirement Documents, Statements of Work, etc., as needed as input for development andor procurement activities. Support for inhouse development and validation of test tools and their maintenance. Support for procurements of test tools test data, including the analysis of received deliverables and attending acceptance tests. Support for acceptance of test tools test data provided by partners. Simulation of test data sets for VV using available tools compilation of test data sets using real data from satellite instrument onground tests or inorbit operation. In case of tools to be connected to the ground segment, input for the specification and test of relevant interfaces. Support for configuration management of tools test data sets, using applicable EUMETSAT processes. Operation of the tools, or support for it, when used for system and ground segment VV activities. Contributions to the analysis of test results and the preparation of test reports. In addition the keyperson will be involved in some more general tasks Participation in relevant internal and external meetings. Regular review of System level documentation dealing with requirements, system concepts, architecture and design, technical analyses, to identify information of importance for test tools test data. In addition, and with the same aim, analysis of documents provided by other teams in EUMETSAT and by external partners. Support for the preparation of documentation for System level reviews, during the covered period the System Requirements Review and Preliminary Design Review Some activities will involve interactions with other teams, primarily in the LEO division, and also, as relevant for the work, with engineers at partner agencies. QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE University degree in the domain of engineering, physics or equivalent ESSENTIAL SKILLS At least 5 years of general experience with the development of onground processing of data from satellite instruments for Earth observation. At least 5 years of direct involvement in VV activities for instrument processing chains, including production of test tools and of test data At least 5 years of experience with software specification, design and development and relevant standards. Very good skills in higher programming languages, such as Fortran, CC, Java. The keyperson shall be able to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision, have a systematic approach to work, be able to plan hisher work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks. Heshe shall have the capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation. Good communication skills verbal and written are important. Heshe shall be willing to work in a team of engineers and in cooperation with industry and partner agencies. Heshe will support the Programme Manager in managing the programmes internal project structures followup of project milestones in liaison with projects leaders integrate and provide overview of resource requirements interface with the project controller as required. Tasks and Responsibilities Coordinate with and act as backup for Administrative Assistant to MetOp and Sentinel5 projects Develop and maintain the integrated planning of the programme resources and calendar Build up and maintain an office internal documentation system Integrate all actions for the programme into a single action item list and ensure that the actions are being discharged in coherence with established procedures Act as a point of contact for all documentationadministrative tools e.g. DMS, RID system, action item database, etc. used in the programme Data collection and extraction from various Corporate applications e.g. SAP, PRISMA and from various internal sources and data consistency checking and coherence analysis Prepare and assist in producing financial and programmatic status reporting as required Assist in the preparation of project audits if and when required Support users for retrieval of documents from local DMS, DMSs from external partners andor industry, out of paper archives, other sources like ESTEC library, scanned documents on CDROM or via internet, etc. Related support to project reviews Compile the inputs from the responsible contributors for monthly reports and Quarterly Status Reports, for review and finalisation by the Programme Manager Write the minutes of the internal management meetings, integrating the various inputs from the team leads End to end responsibility for the management of promotional items linked to launch campaigns and ESA missions need assessment up to definition of distribution in close coordination with the respective external project managers Tasks related to documentation management, distributionregistration of mail and documents Analyse incoming correspondence and documentation and manage distribution of outgoing correspondence and documentation Provision of various logistic support to the programme Daytoday support to Unit personnel regarding travel arrangements, leave management, coordination of training Dealing with incoming telephone calls and information requests Organisation of agenda and of meetings Room and resource bookings for meetings andor events falling under the responsibility of the Unit The Contractor is expected to be or become familiar with the Agencys internal informatics tool needed for the conduct of hisher tasks. Experience and education Proficient in MS Office packages with experience of high level Project Administration Knowledge of ESA administrative and financial processes is a definite advantage Highly proficient in modern planning and project control tools, office automation software and databases, such as MS Office including Excel Experience with SAP is an advantage Excellent planning and organisation skills and attention to detail Good communication skills Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team within the boundaries of assigned tasks and a stringent schedule Initiative and motivation to perform to high standards in a demanding environment Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the outside world Fluent in the English language spoken and written.
