Alibaba grows quarterly revenues 61%, EBITDA growth slows on investment costs

(Telecompaper) Alibaba Group reported another quarter of strong revenue growth, while profits were under pressure from investments and acquisitions. Revenues rose 61 percent year-on-year in the three months to June to CNY 80.92 billion (USD 12.23 billion). Adjusted EBITDA was up a slower 17 percent to CNY 29.36 billion, leading to a sharp fall in the margin to 36 percent.

Spark grows FY revenues 1%, profits fall on restructuring costs

(Telecompaper) New Zealand operator Spark reported revenues for its fiscal year to June up 1.0 percent to NZD 3.649 billion, in line with its outlook. Growth in mobile and cloud and security services offset slightly the drop in legacy voice and data services. Restructuring costs led to a fall in EBITDA of 2.7 percent NZD 989 million, and net profit was down 7.8 percent to NZD 385 million, hurt also be the fall in Southern Cross dividends.

Eastern European OTT revenues to triple

According to Digital TV Research, OTT TV episode and movie revenues for Eastern European countries will reach $3.51 billion in 2023; more than triple the $1.01 billion recorded in 2017. Russia will then account for 40% of the regions OTT revenues.

Swisscom lifts Q2 revenues by 2.1 percent with 1.5 percent fewer RGUs

(Telecompaper) Swisscom's operating results were within expectations in the first half of 2018. In Q2, net revenue increased by 2.1 percent to CHF 2.92 billion. EBITDA dropped by 8.6 percent to CHF 1.09 billion in the second quarter, while in the Swiss core business, EBITDA dropped by only 3.2 percent to CHF 894 million but at Fastweb, it fell by 30.1 percent to CHF 195 million.
