Spanish govt approves EUR 150 mln FTTH funding for digital divide areas

(Telecompaper) Spain's council of ministers has approved a plan to allocate EUR 150 million in funding this year to bring high-speed FTTH to underserved areas. Under the PEBA-NGA programme, the government intends to increase superfast broadband coverage at speeds of between 300 Mbps and 1 Gbps to 91.24 percent of the Spanish population and 75.29 percent of rural areas by the end of 2021.

Technicolor reaches preliminary agreement on EUR 420 mln financing plan

(Telecompaper) Technicolor announced details of a restructuring plan agreement which, if approved, would provide the company with new financing of EUR 420 million from a number of lenders, including Bain, Alcentra and BpiFrance. The proposal depends on a major debt equitization exercise worth up to EUR 660 million, which needs to be endorsed at an extraordinary general meeting scheduled on 20 July.

Turkey takes control of Turkcell as Telia agrees exit for USD 530 mln

(Telecompaper) Telia Company has reached an agreement to sell its 47.1 percent stake in Turkcell Holding to the state-owned Turkey Wealth Fund for USD 530 million. The transaction also includes a full settlement of all shareholder disputes and litigation connected to Turkcell and Turkcell Holding. As a result of the deal with all the shareholders, the state fund becomes the largest, controlling shareholder of the mobile operator.

Deutsche Telekom supplies 16 mln with 5G, to cover half German population by mid-July

(Telecompaper) Deutsche Telekom said it now supplies over 16 million people with 5G, in more than 1,000 towns and communities. The company plans to provide 5G for 40 million people, or half of the German population, by mid-July.

FCC proposes record fine of USD 225 mln against robocallers

(Telecompaper) The US Federal Communications Commission has proposed a USD 225 million fine against Texas-based health insurance telemarketers for making around 1 billion illegally spoofed robocalls. This is the largest fine in the FCC's 86-year history and was followed by seven state attorneys general filing lawsuits in Texas against the same offender.
