RHEA is currently recruiting a AOCS Operations Preparation Engineer to support the Solar Orbiter project at our clients premises in Stevenage, UK Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Space segment user manual SSUM and procedures preparation which includes the following activities This activity will be closely coupled to the ETB test campaign and to the flight SW development cycle and versioning, such that the flight procedures form the basis of the test procedures developed by the AIVAIT team. In addition to command, telemetry, design and operational concept descriptions, this will include identification of operational constraints and definition of ground monitoring procedures, flight control procedures and contingency recovery procedures. Maintenance of the SSUM and the procedures following the Spacecraft Integrator change control process. This may include maintenance of SSUM sections and procedures that were not originally written by the candidate. A list of SSUM open items shall be maintained by the candidate and published regularly. Participation in the formal reviews of the SSUM and procedures in the scope of the spacecraft CDR and QR and other SSUM gate reviews that will be defined at appropriate points when the SSUM is delivered to ESA. The candidate will be expected to answer allocated RIDs and to attend the review collocations. Review of the Flight Operations Plan produced from the SSUM by the ESOC operations team. Reviewing, assessment and consolidation of AOCS FDIR inputs. Preparation of sections of the FDIR concept and implementation report During Spacecraft Testing, maintenance of validation status logs covering procedures, commands and telemetries. These logs will give the detailed demonstration that procedures are validated. Provision of operations support during spacecraft AIT AIV. The support will include Review of test procedures and participation in TRRs Review of test results and participation in TRBs Assistance in debugging of test dry runs Assistance in NCR investigations as required by NRBs. Provision of customer support during Operational and System Validation Tests preparation and execution Provision of input data needed for build of flight software versions including supporting the review of SW architecture, design and test documentation. Provision of inputs to the satellite data base as needed to support the flight procedures. Participation in equipment, subsystem and spacecraft reviews. Review of the ESOC Flight Operations Plans generated using the operations documentation delivered by the Spacecraft Integrator. Maintenance of operations budgets including, but not limited to system TM and TC budgets. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory A degree in Engineering in a relevant discipline. This is an opportunity for a university graduated engineer in engineering relevant to the post, with demonstrated experience in the 3axis stabilised LEO Attitude and Orbit Control Systems to support our customer in the operations of the Metop satellites. The position is unlimited and fully assigned to our customer EUMETSAT in DarmstadtGermany. The position will start in November 2015. Submission deadline for applicants will be 20th of August 2015. RESPONSIBILITIESDUTIES The Key person shall work in the Operations and Services to Users Department as a member of the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team. The key person shall be primarily assigned to the Metop Attitude and Orbit Control System AOCS operations and trained to provide operations expertise and support to further platform subsystems and or payload instruments, depending on his or her experience and the overall team needs. The key person shall also participate in coordinating the satellite operations activities of other team members and external teams responsible for onboard software management, simulator support, mission control, mission planning, flight dynamics and ground stations. Furthermore, the key person shall support system and operations preparation activities for MetopC, for Metop Second Generation satellites and possibly also for Sentinel6, particularly with respect to AOCS related activities. The key person shall be required to support operations during normal working hours, as well as support the oncall operations engineer rota, such that safe and efficient operations are ensured by the Spacecraft Operations Team on a 247 basis. The tasks of the Key person will typically include Support to the routine operations of Metop A, B and preparing for MetopC, comprising o Provision of operational expertise to the Attitude and Orbit Control System in particular, with support to other platform subsystems andor payload instruments andor onboard software management, satellite simulator and ground segment operations interfaces. o Maintain the corresponding operations documentation and flight procedures, including the update and operational validation of procedures releases in a configuration controlled environment o Perform trending and performance analysis on the corresponding subsystems and instruments, including definition and possibly prototyping of additional analysis checks where necessary o Investigations into satellite anomalies. This may require a close cooperation with the Operations Support Entity in ESTEC and Industry o Support the coordination of partner agency interactions for relevant subsystemsinstruments o Participation in the satellite oncall support rota o Identification and support to implementation of system and process improvements concerning the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team responsibilities and interfaces. Support to the system and operations preparation of Metop Second Generation satellites o Provide inputs and or review the definition of system and satellite operational concepts o Review space to ground interface specifications and flight operations manuals o Support the definition of tools and processes required to prepare for and operate the satellites.
