Moreover, we actively manage your professional development, training and career progression. For the location in Darmstadt Germany we are looking for an EPSSG System Engineer to work at EUMETSAT. Tasks To ensure continuity of the core missions supported by the current EPSMetop system and to fulfil complementary user needs a followup programme EPSSG is currently being prepared by EUMETSAT. EPSSG is an approved mandatory programme. EPSSG will be based on a twosatellite configuration with the launch of the first satellite MetopSG A in mid2021 followed by the second satellite MetopSG B 18 months later. Two recurrent Metop SG A and B satellites will be provided and launched in order to achieve a minimum of 21 years of operations. The activities for this consultancy will include overall system aspects involving the space segment satellites and the ground segment, consisting of the data acquisition systems, monitoring and control systems, data processing facilities and product dissemination facilities. The focus for the consultant will be on Satellite and operational related aspects within the system. The tasks and responsibilities of the consultant to be undertaken will typically include the following Ensuring that operational aspects from operations concept etc are adequately reflected in the system technical specifications and design. Provide input and support to the customisation of the Packet Utilisation Standard PUS specific to EPSSG and documentation of the results. Provide input and support to the customisation of other satellite related ECSS standards Provide input to the Space to ground ICD and ensure that the system design and operations matches with the satellite data storage and retrieval concepts. Follow up of actions arising from the Space segment that have system impacts. Provide support to general system engineering activities such as Analysis and trade off activities Preparation and maintenance of system technical specification. Documentation of system design and justification Ad hoc internal reviews System level formal reviews. Ground segment level activities as required Support IVV activities Essential requirements The consultant shall have the following experience and background University degree in the domain of engineering, science, or equivalent. At least 5 years of experience in the field of engineering of space andor ground systems, in the area of LowEarth Orbiting satellites LEO, including the development of monitoring and control systems for polar satellites. Experience of Satellite Monitoring and Control using ECSS PUS standards services. Capability to prepare system requirements and design documents, and to perform systemlevel analyses for complex polar satellite systems. Desirable requirements The following experience would be additional assets Familiarity with the CORE design tool from Vitech. Experience with DOORS. The Key Person will be responsible for the definition andor maintenance of the routine operations procedures pertaining to mission performance operations and the interfaces of the key systems within the ground segment, in accordance with the established EUMETSAT Operations Department configuration management and quality assurance practices. As part of the operations evolution, the key person will be responsible for the redesign and evolution of the mission performance systems to support existing and new programmes. The Key Person will acquire and maintain a Systemwide view of the MSG System, and the EPS CGS and OGS, particularly in the areas of system endtoend monitoring control and data flows. The Key Person will review any planned changes to the mission performance system configurations for LEO and GEO ground segments, and support the investigation of anomalies encountered through the routine system and ground segment operations. The Key Person will provide support to the development and operations preparation for recurrent satellites in existing operational programs e.g. MetopC and MSG4, and for future operational programs now in development including Sentinel3, MTG and EPSSG. The key person will interface with project teams on the implementation of system upgrades to support major operations projects, including System MidTerm Evolution Plan, recurrent satellites, and any System hardware and operating system obsolescence upgrade. The Key Person will perform the following routine operations tasks Definition, configuration and maintenance of endtoend monitoring and reporting systems Definition and maintenance of system operations procedures, including system and ground segment procedures and operations guides Liaison with the spacecraft operations team to ensure the continuity and optimisation of spacecraft monitoring and control activities Liaison with the ground segment facility operations teams and system operations analysts to ensure the continuity and optimisation of ground segment and mission operations through procedure and operations guide updates, configuration changes, database or user interface changes etc. Support to the definition of Operations Service Specifications Interface with the systems maintenance teams and industry representatives to ensure optimised performance, including participating in the definition and implementation of any changes to the mission performance systems Provision of support to operational ground segment analyses Provision of standbyoncall support as system operations engineer, on an as needed basis.
