As a member of the Computer Systems Management CSM team, the key person will provide support to the development and maintenance of the TCE Technical Computing Environment. The tasks will be carried out mainly at EUMETSAT facilities in Darmstadt, but travel within Europe may be required for certain activities. Tasks The duties range from the support to the operation of the TCE, to the analysis, design, development, testing and maintenance of distributed hardware and system software platforms. This includes the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures, the support to the procurement of hardware and software, and the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. The key person shall perform the following tasks Installation and configuration of operating system and other software, tuning of operating systems parameters to optimise performance Analysis, planning and carrying out of HW and SW upgrades or reconfigurations, taking care of compatibility issues between subsystems Monitoring of the system performance, investigation into HW and system SW problems and carrying out the relevant corrective actions Provision of firstlevel support to the users of the system Ensuring that in case of HW or system SW failures the operational configuration can be restored, including the definition, maintenance, carrying out of backup procedures Coordination with shared infrastructures, e.g. networks, storage network infrastructure SNI, for operations and maintenance Liaison with the external providers of HW and system SW maintenance for the request and follow up of maintenance interventions Administration and installation of databases Administration of user accounts Support to SW development and maintenance in relation to the utilisation of system resources Implementation and maintenance of scripts andor procedures where applicable for the automated andor controlled execution of the above activities, generation or update of technical documentation in relation to system upgrades Provision of standbyoncall support if needed under special circumstances Provision of support, as required, to critical operations. In the performance of the activities the Key person shall apply the relevant change control and maintenance procedures. Qualifications and Requirements Essential In addition to having a university degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the key person shall have extensive experience in the administration and troubleshooting of distributed systems. The experience should have been made in an operational or production environment, characterised by custom applications in addition to standard software, running both on the client and server side, and by high availability requirements. The key person shall have an expert knowledge and a significant work experience of the UNIX operating systems, and should be familiar, to the extent required by the performance of the above tasks. It is mandatory for this position that the key person has knowledge of the following On IBM computers AIX, configuration of pseries servers, GPFS, TSM backup, NIM On DELLIBM x64 computers SuSE Linux andor RedHat Linux Virtualisation based on VMWare products Network based on Ethernet SAN technology TCPIP internetworking and the related network protocols and applications, e.g. NIS, NFS, DNS, SNMP, FTP. Tasks The Contractor shall be involved with the specification, implementation, testing and acceptance of ground systems for different ESA ProgrammesProjects.
