DUTIES The postholder will report to the Head of Mobile and Secure Communications Section and will be responsible for the analysis, definition, initiation and management of industrial activities, associated to new mobile and secure communication systems, in particular, in the area of aeronautical telecommunications. Specific responsibilities of the incumbent include monitoring and assessing the needs and potential for future mobile and secure communication systems, particularly in the area of aeronautical communications, as well as initiating and managing studies on associated system concepts analysing and preparing proposals for new mobilesecure satellite telecommunication projects, including the definition of mission requirements contributing to the definition, planning and implementation of aeronautical telecommunications standardisation activities defining all elements associated with the endtoend missionsystem architecture of new mobilesecure satellite projectssystems. Assessment and analysis of the best concepts and technical solutions to meet the defined mission and system requirements assessing the potential and benefits of new mobile techniquestechnologies and security concepts at system level. Performing tradeoffs between different conceptstechnologies to optimising the endtoend system negotiating, monitoring and controlling contracts and activities related to new mobilesecure satellite projects acquiring and developing endtoend system engineering expertise in the development of new mobilesecure satellite system concepts and in new ESA ProjectsProgrammes. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should hold a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in engineering and substantial experience in satellite telecommunication systems, preferably in the definition and implementation of space andor ground segment of mobilesecure systems for aeronautical communications. Specific experience in the satellite telecommunication commercial market development is desirable. Candidates shall demonstrate innovation and creativity pragmatic approach with strong analytical capabilities excellent organisational and decision making skills strong results orientation proven ability to build positive relationships excellent communication skills. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset. CLOSING DATE The closing date for applications is 27 January 2014. Summary A rare opportunity for an experienced system software engineer to work for Telespazio VEGA onsite at ESTEC within concurrent engineering. Objective To support the deployment and exploitation and continuous evolution of the Open Concurrent Design Tool OCDT and its various applications. Responsibilities Duties The Engineer will be integrated in the CDF team and will be required to perform the following tasks Direct participation in CDF studies and activities, covering the role of System Engineer andor System of Systems Architect, associated to functions of Software Engineer see below, thus coordinating design and architecture sessions with specialists of other engineering disciplines. Support the evolution of the CDF infrastructure through prototyping and evaluation of CDF model architecture related applications, Support the evolution of the CDF infrastructure through the development of new CDF Models. This includes assistance to the various specialists in creating new discipline Workbooks, tools and databases and participating in joint design sessions. Support the enhancement of the CDF infrastructure through the design, development, implementation and maintenance of specific databases, incl. testing and reviewing the fully integrated CDF database model template. Provide support to the evolution of the Open Concurrent Design Tool OCDT product in particular in terms of deploying, exploiting and maintaining such a product for internal and external Space Community utilisation Provide System Engineering functional support to ESA projects, which encompasses interface with the project team and the industrial team, participation in progress meetings and reviews, as requested by project work, and providing appropriate feedback about achieved progress and results.
