You shall have skills and experience in software maintenance and testing with the following mandatory areas 1. System Integration Verification Skills o Extensive experience minimum 3 years in integration activities for Satellite Monitoring Control Systems. o Extensive experience minimum 3 years in verification testing activities of Satellite Monitoring Control Systems following formal software engineering processes. o Extensive experience minimum 5 years in the investigation of software anomalies and verification testing of fixes, preferably in the domain of Satellite Monitoring Control Systems. o Experience using tools for the automation of software testing. 2. Software Engineering Skills o Experience in the maintenance of software applications following formal software engineering processes o Experience in developing and maintaining software applications using Java under UNIX operating systems. o Experience in developing and maintaining software applications using C under UNIX operating systems. o Experience with static and dynamic software analysis tools in support to testing and troubleshooting. 3. Documentation and Configuration Management Skills o Very good knowledge of MS Windows Office Suite applications and experience with documentation management systems. o Experience in using configuration Management and anomaly reporting and tracking tools. Unix System Software Engineer

For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently seeking a UNIX System Software Engineer for the maintenance of the Technical Computing Environment TCE. The Engineer shall work in the Technical and Scientific Support Department Ground Segment Infrastructure Division team, supporting mainly the TCE maintenance and further development. Heshe will be part of a system administration team that is also responsible for all operational systems in EUMETSAT plus the TCE system. Tasks As a member of the Computer Systems Management CSM team, the Engineer shall provide support to the development and maintenance of the TCE. The duties range from the support to the operation of the TCE, to the analysis, design, development, testing and maintenance of distributed hardware and system software platforms. This includes the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures, the support to the procurement of hardware and software, and the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. The Engineer shall perform the following tasks Installation and configuration of operating system and other software, tuning of operating systems parameters to optimize performance Analysis, planning and carrying out of HW and SW upgrades or reconfigurations, taking care of compatibility issues between subsystems Monitoring of the system performance, investigation into HW and system SW problems and carrying out the relevant corrective actions Provision of firstlevel support to the users of the system Ensuring that in case of HW or system SW failures the operational configuration can be restored, including the definition, maintenance, carrying out of backup procedures Coordination with shared infrastructures, e.g. networks, storage network infrastructure SNI, for operations and maintenance Liaison with the external providers of HW and system SW maintenance for the request and follow up of maintenance interventions Administration and installation of databases Administration of user accounts Support to SW development and maintenance in relation to the utilization of system resources Implementation and maintenance of scripts andor procedures where applicable for the automated andor controlled execution of the above activities, generation or update of technical documentation in relation to system upgrades Provision of standbyoncall support if needed under special circumstances Provision of support, to critical operations as required. Qualifications and Requirements Applicants require a university degree or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline. Essential The Engineer shall have extensive experience in the administration and troubleshooting of distributed systems. The experience should have been made in an operational or production environment, characterised by custom applications in addition to standard software, running both on the client and server side, and by high availability requirements. The Engineer shall have an expert knowledge and a significant work experience of the UNIX operating systems, and should be familiar, to the extent required by the performance of the above tasks, with as many as possible of the following system software environments IBM computers AIX, configuration of pseries servers, GPFS, TSM backup, NIM DELL computers SuSE Linux andor RedHat Linux Virtualization based on VMWare products Network based on Ethernet EMC RAID arrays and virtual appliances SAN technology TCPIP internetworking and the related network protocols and applications, e.g. NIS, NFS, DNS, SNMP, FTP Sun computers Solaris operating systems. Desirable Installation and maintenance of ORACLE databases Maintenance of an Online Documentation system FirstSecond Level user support Automatic Service Provisioning using Cloud technologies. It is also an advantage if the key person can carry out basic hardware support like installing interface cards or physically setting up networks. The variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills. Because of the special support role good communications skills and stress resistance are essential for the job. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. Summary To support the Science and Technology Operations Centre of the Lisa Pathfinder mission, a technology demonstrator for the LISA mission. Objective The Science and Technology Operations Centre STOC is the point of interface to the scientific community, and is responsible for the payload scheduling, quicklook data analysis, data processing and archiving. The engineer will be developing this infrastructure. Responsibilities Duties 1. Activities during the development phase a STOC system engineering Define and maintain the toplevel system design of the Science Operations Ground Segment in the different mission phases Support the definition of the interfaces between the STOC and the MOC and the writing maintenance of the STOCMOC ICD Define the interfaces between the STOC and the LTP DRS and write the STOCLTP and STOC DRS ICDs Write the STOC Operations Plans Write the STOC Operations Procedures b STOC SW development Monitor the development of the software modules e.g. Mission Planning, Data Ingestion, Simulator, Be responsible of the installation of these tools and their configuration control at STOC Perform their acceptance tests. c STOC integration Ground Segment Tests The Operations Engineer will provide service support for the definition, preparation and execution of the STOC integration tests, the Ground Segment tests SOVTs and the STOC Simulations Prepare test plans, test data and procedures to applied during these tests 2. The service provided by the Operations Engineer will cover being responsible for the installation of these tools and their configuration control at STOC.
