EPSSG Radio Occultation Science Support Consultancy Key Tasks and Responsibilities Our customer is a European organisation providing weather and climaterelated satellite data, images and products for its users. You will have the following responsibilities Preparation of algorithm theoretical basis documents for the generation of level 1 and selected level 2 products Preparation of product generation specifications Prototyping of product generation functions Generation of product contents specifications Preparation of test data and of initial validation plans Contribution to the generation of performance budgets Conduct of internal studies related to mission requirements refinements Assessment of results from external studies Contribution to the initiation of scientific support studies System meetings and activities of instrument functional chain teams IFCT1 Participation in reviews. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience University degree in remote sensing, meteorology, oceanography or equivalent Several years of experience in the field of remote sensing, including experience with radio occultation observations Experience in satellite data processing Very good skills in a higher programming language, such as Fortran, CC, Python as well as familiarity with Microsoft Office Skills in writing scientifictechnical documents Fluency in English is mandatory. For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently seeking employ a person to provide scientific support in the area of Radio Occultation for the EPSSG programme. The EPSSG programme has started its phase B, during which the user and system requirements are being consolidated in iteration with the users, and different system concepts to implement these requirements are elaborated and tradedoff. The focus of the consultant will be on the scientific aspects associated to the development of the product processing facilities of the EPSSG product processing facilities of the EPSSG ground segment. Tasks The activities of the successful applicant will include scientific aspects related to the development of the product processing facilities of the EPSSG ground segment. Heshe will work in a matrix structure providing crossdivisional support and be hosted in the Remote Sensing and Products Division of the Technical and Science Support Department. Important Candidates must hold a European Passport and be willing to work in Spain Job Description Support to Science Operations Herschel The objective of the service support to be provided is to continue development of the Herschel Science Data Processing system by designing, implementing, maintaining, testing and documenting data analysis modules written in Java and Jython on a Linux platform. This software is developed jointly between ESA, the three Herschel instrument teams and the NASA Herschel Science Center, with ESA coordinating the overall development and providing the framework within which the instrument teams can develop and optimise instrumentspecific data reduction algorithms. The Herschel Data Processing System serves both as the basis to generate standard pipeline products and as tool to analyse Herschel data interactively. The Herschel Data Processing System is distributed to the astronomical community. Specific tasks beyond generalpurpose software development include Development and maintenance of the Herschel standard product generation and quality control framework. This framework is used for pipeline data processing for all Herschel data Graphical user interface GUI development and maintenance Development and maintenance of the Herschel Interactive Analysis system. This system is used by the astronomical community to exploit Herschel data in detail Development and maintenance of data structures, including accessing them locally and from object oriented and relational databases Development and maintenance of numerical libraries Setting up and providing access to webservices working in the VO context Writing and maintenance of documentation Provision and maintenance of test harnesses Support of the data processing technical assistants when running the operational environment to generate Herschel standard products. The payload onboard LPF will consist of the European LISA Technology Package LTP and a contribution provided by the NASAJPL, the Disturbance Reduction System DRS. The Science and Technology Operations Centre STOC is the point of interface to the scientific community, and is responsible for the payload scheduling, quicklook data analysis, data processing and archiving. During the operational phase of the mission extensive stays at ESOC Darmstadt, Germany may be needed. Engineer Specific tasks requirements for this position 1.Activities during the development phase a STOC system engineering The service to be provided by the Operations Engineer will entail supporting the system engineering activities of the STOC.
