Our client is looking for an Instrument Data Processing Algorithms Software Engineer to support Routine Operations phase of the Meteosat Second Generation MSG Programme, to support development activities in support of the Meteosat Third Generation MTG and Eumetsat Polar System Second Generation EPSSG Programmes and to be integrated into the INR Calibration Section of the Remote Sensing Products Division RSP, which provides support to the operations of the MSG satellites, as well as development support to MTG and EPSSG. To travel within Europe may be required for certain activities. Typical tasks and responsibilities include MSG Operations Support Developing an expert knowledge of the MSG Image Processing System investigating anomalies in the MSG Image Processing System specifying modifications to the MSG Image Processing System implementing modifications to the MSG Image Processing System verifying and validating modifications to the MSG Image Processing System updating the design and user documentation for the MSG Image Processing System. MTG Development Support Reviewing, analysing and anomaly investigation of MTG instrument data processing software from procurements supporting the integration, verification and validation of MTG instrument data processing deliveries supporting the development of a MTG reference processor at EUMETSAT prototyping selected instrument data processing algorithms. EPSSG Development Support Reviewing, analysing and anomaly investigation of EPSSG instrument data processing software from procurements supporting the integration, verification and validation of EPSSG instrument data processing deliveries prototyping selected instrument data processing algorithms. All applicants should have strong mathematical skills, and experience in the implementation of numerical algorithms, ideally in an image processing context, objectoriented system design, C programming and UNIX. Experience in realtime image processing of large volumes of data, geometric correction navigation registration of satellite images, radiometric correction calibration of satellite images, performance optimisation of algorithms, IDL or MATLAB, integration, verification, and validation of realtime data processing systems and familiarity with ECSS standards, in particular those related to software development would be an advantage. All candidates must have a University or similar degree in a relevant discipline such as aerospace engineering, physics or remote sensingand be fluent in English, both spoken and written. Knowledge of French would be an advantage.

Summary A degree educated experienced science operations engineer with experience of using Java and Jython on a Linux platform is required. Objective The objective of the service support to be provided is to continue development of the Herschel Science Data Processing system by designing, implementing, maintaining, testing and documenting data analysis modules. This software is developed jointly between ESA, the three Herschel instrument teams and the NASA Herschel Science Center, with ESA coordinating the overall development and providing the framework within which the instrument teams can develop and optimise instrumentspecific data reduction algorithms. The Herschel Data Processing System serves both as the basis to generate standard pipeline products and as tool to analyse Herschel data interactively. The Herschel Data Processing System is distributed to the astronomical community. Responsibilities Duties Specific tasks beyond generalpurpose software development include Development and maintenance of the Herschel standard product generation and quality control framework. This framework is used for pipeline data processing for all Herschel data Graphical user interface GUI development and maintenance Development and maintenance of the Herschel Interactive Analysis system. This system is used by the astronomical community to exploit Herschel data in detail Development and maintenance of data structures, including accessing them locally and from object oriented and relational databases Development and maintenance of numerical libraries Setting up and providing access to webservices working in the VO context Writing and maintenance of documentation Provision and maintenance of test harnesses Support of the data processing technical assistants when running the operational environment to generate Herschel standard products. JOB DESCRIPTION Product Processing Integration Engineer for the EPS Data and Product Processing Facilities As members of the SEP LEO Mission Data Processing Operational Applications maintenance team, the Key Person shall support the maintenance and evolution of the EPS Ground Segment, specifically the development and integration of new PPF. The application software is mainly developed in C and a good experience in C is therefore mandatory. For the PPF support knowledge of C will be needed in addition. The Key Persons duties will include a range of tasks, from the support of the day to day operation and maintenance, the analysis, design, development and testing of the facilities which also includes the handling of anomalies, upgrades and configuration changes for these facilities. The Key Person will be the focal point when it comes to integrating each individual Product Processing Facility into a system context, covering all aspects from early SW development, definition of interfaces, system integration and testing, and end to end testing of the production system. Tasks will also contain the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures as well as the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. In support to operations, the Key Person may also be required to provide on call support as partof a team of maintenance engineers. Besides the above described routine tasks, the Key Person will also be expected to contribute to design and system engineeringreengineering activities in the field of science data processing that will become necessary for existing and future production systems. The Key Person shall have a minimum of 5 years work experience in UNIX application development and testing in C, C. The Key Person should possess very good communication, presentation and team working skills and be able to cope with very high workloads. An ability to adapt to a rapidly changing, often stressful environment and retain a system overview is also essential.
