Climate Data Processing Engineer Key Tasks and Responsibilities Our customer is a European organisation providing weather and climaterelated satellite data, images and products for its users. Your responsibilities will include Product and algorithm specifications for ERACLIM2 climate data records Implement operational product processing chains in the reprocessing environment Implement operational processors into the operational reprocessing chains Development and implementation of operational functional and product quality monitoring procedures for reprocessing monitoring and validation system Analyse resulting product quality of ERACLIM2 products Execute reprocessing campaigns for all planned ERACLIM2 data sets Prepare ERACLIM2 data sets for ingestion into the Data Centre Compile data set documentation including validation reports, user guides and format descriptions Compile project result presentations and participate in project meetings. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience University degree in a discipline related to satellite climate monitoring Meteorological and climate monitoring satellites and their instruments Several years experience implementation of software for operational processing of satellite climate data UNIX application development and testing in C, C Fortran 9095 experience Experience working in operational product processing environments Knowledge of scripting languages, such as Python, Perl, TclTk, shell and analysis and graphic software such as IDL and Matlab Knowledge of software build environments and tools Experience in validation of satellite products for climate monitoring Handling of large data volumes and working knowledge of data bases such as MySQL and Oracle Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an advantage. The Mission The ESA Sentinel1 mission is a polarorbiting Earth observation satellite system for the continuation of Synthetic Aperture Radar SAR operational applications, comprising two satellites, Sentinel1A and Sentinel1B. Sentinel1A is currently in the final stages of preparation for launch, with launch planned for early 2014. The Challenge We are looking for a Spacecraft Operations Engineer SOE to be part of the flight operations team based at ESOC in Darmstadt. The position is primarily assigned to the Sentinel1 mission ref. httpwww.esa.intesaLPSEMBRS4KXMFLPgmes0.html, but with the possibility of supporting other missions within the ESOCs Earth Observation Missions Division. The primary area of responsibility for this position is the Payload Data Handling Transmission PDHT subsystem with includes the Xband RF subsystem. In addition, the candidate will provide operations support to the Data Handling and SBand TTC subsystems. The candidate may be requested to assume the responsibility and perform activities for additional subsystems or systems, depending on hisher experience and background. Other areas of responsibility specific to Sentinel1 are Validation, test and operation of the Flight Operations Segment FOS ground systems, including the Mission Control System and Satellite Operational Simulator Support to the setup, validation, test and operation of the Onboard Software Management systems. This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date of January 2014, with duration to the end of the Sentinel1B spacecraft commissioning expected 2016. Your Qualifications Applicants should have a university or similar degree in an engineering subject or physics. Applicants should have basic knowledge of all spacecraft subsystems and detailed knowledge of the subsystems listed in the technical description. Knowledge of and experience in ESA Ground Segment Operations and ESOC Ground Segment Components Mission Control System, Simulators is desirable. Aurora is an established supplier of skilled manpower to ESA and in particular at ESTEC and ESAC. Aurora has the opportunity to expand our support within the Science and Robotic Exploration Directorate DSRE. Aurora currently has a team of 18 engineers and scientists at ESAC. Overview The objective of the service support to be provided is to continue development of the Herschel Science Data Processing system by designing, implementing, maintaining, testing and documenting data analysis modules written in Java and Jython. This software is developed jointly between ESA, the three Herschel instrument teams and the NASA Herschel Science Center, with ESA coordinating the overall development and providing the framework within which the instrument teams can develop and optimise instrumentspecific data reduction algorithms. The Herschel Data Processing System provides applications to generate standard pipeline products and to analyse Herschel data interactively HIPE. The software is open source and it distributed to the astronomical community httpherschel.esac.esa.inthipe. Specific tasks beyond generalpurpose software development include Development and maintenance of the Herschel standard product generation SPG and quality control framework. This framework is used for processing for all Herschel data Graphical user interface GUI development and maintenance Development and maintenance of the Herschel interactive analysis system.
