Spacecraft Operations Engineer Sentinel2 Data Handling mf The Mission The Sentinel2 mission forms part of Europes Copernicus Earth Observation programme. It is a polarorbiting, multispectral highresolution imaging mission for land monitoring to provide, for example, imagery of vegetation, soil and water cover, inland waterways and coastal areas. Sentinel2 will also deliver information for emergency services. The tow Sentinel2 spacecraft will be operated from the European Space Operations Centre ESOC, in Darmstadt, Germany. More information on the Sentinel2 mission can be found here httpwww.esa.intOurActivitiesObservingtheEarthCopernicusSentinel2 The Challenge We are looking for a qualified Spacecraft Operations Engineer to be part of the flight control team providing spacecraft operations engineering services, being located at the customer site ESOC in Darmstadt, Germany. You will be primarily assigned to the Sentinel2 mission, but with the possibility of supporting other missions within the Earth Observations Missions Division. The tasks to be performed are those typical for a spacecraft operations engineer, but with a focus on Data Handling operations. Typical spacecraft operations engineering tasks include familiarizing with the mission characteristics, defining requirements for flight control systems, preparing and validating flight control procedures, validating ground systems used for operations, participating in spacecraft interface tests, and spacecraft performance analysis. Specific areas of responsibility and support related to this position are Data Handling operations engineering Validation, test and operation of the mission control system, including the Onboard Software Management System and Mission Planning System Validation, test and operation of the Operational Simulator Generation, validation and maintenance of the Flight Operations Plan primarily on Data Handling, but also for other subsystems Support to test and operate the Network Data Interface Unit Support for Flight Operations System procurement, integration and tests Review of satellite documents LEOP support responsible for Data Handling Commissioning support responsible for Data Handling This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date of 1st October 2014. Working time is normal office hours, with possible oncall support outside normal working hours after spacecraft launch. Occasional travel within Europe may be required. Your Qualifications Applicants shall have an university degree, preferably in aerospace, electronics or physics or other suitable qualification together with some professional experience in spacecraft andor operational applications. Essential skills are Spacecraft subsystem knowledge, preferably for Data Handling Experience in working in an operational environment Experience with life cycle of flight operations procedures Experience with the organisation or execution of space mission tests involving both ground and space segment Experience with anomaly investigations Ability to understand and accurately predict behaviour of complex systems Ability to work independently and with little supervision Wellorganised, able to prioritise and manage several activities in parallel Ability to coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields. Fluency in English, both in speech and writing Desirable skills are Experience with On Board Software maintenance Familiarity with the European Packet Utilisation Standard Familiarity with the ESOC environment Familiarity with satellite control systems, in particular SCOS2000 Familiarity with operational simulators, especially the ones based on SIMSAT Some experience dealing with external interfaces Familiarity with low Earth orbit satellites Familiarity with multisatellite missions The position requires a great deal of independence and selfmotivation. Spacecraft Operations Engineer ExoMars TTC, communications, Mars data relay operations mf The Mission ExoMars is the European mission to characterise the biological and geochemical environment on Mars in preparation for future robotic missions and human exploration. The mission foresees an ESA provided orbiter in 2016 and a Rover in 2018. The Orbiter will be launched in 2016. Following a 9 months cruise it will go into Mars Orbit and perform an initial orbital science phase for one Martian year. Subsequently the orbiter will be the prime source for relay communications for the 2018 Rover and following missions. The Rover Mission will be launched in 2018, transported and deployed to the surface of Mars by NASA provided assets. The Orbiter will be operated from ESOC in Darmstadt, while the Rover will be operated by remote centres under ESAs responsibility. ESOC will also be responsible for the overall mission coordination and communications. The spacecraft control system will be based on SCOS2000 with the support from the ESA and NASA deep space ground station network. The service will be delivered to the XMMNewton and INTEGRAL missions primarily in the first instance, but with the possibility of supporting other missions within the Astronomy and Fundamental Physics Missions Division at a later stage of the service provision.
